Job summary

Good Shepherd Services is seeking a College Transition and Success Counselor to support students transitioning to and attending CUNY colleges. You will collaborate with CUNY staff, GSS program personnel, and community partners to ensure a smooth college transition and sustained success.

You will provide individual guidance, develop college transition workshops, and coordinate site visits while helping participants plan for post-high school work or credential opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience with young adults.
• Experience with college access and the application process or college retention.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to engage students and parents to support college completion.
• Commitment to youth development perspective.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with CUNY counselors and college staff.
• Collaborate with counselors at GSS community schools, YABCs and day programs to identify students for college transition.
• Provide individual support and advocacy to students in the cohort.
• Develop and implement workshops on transitioning to college.
• Arrange college site visits to orient students to campuses and departments.
• Review and monitor students’ financial aid to maximize aid and budgeting.
• Assist students to plan and prepare for the CUNY Assessment Test.
• Develop academic monitoring and early warning to address retention risks.
• Arrange study groups and tutoring as needed.
• Help participants develop transferable career readiness skills and pursue jobs/credentials.
• Organize activities to advance cohort cohesion and peer support.
• Maintain demographic and case notes for data collection and research.
• Document all required statistics and narratives.
• Participate in staff trainings and partnership meetings.
