Job Description

College Readiness Coordinator

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The primary responsibility of the College Readiness Coordinator is to lead all teen programs relating to college readiness and post-secondary education preparation. This includes, but is not limited to, college readiness programs, SAT/ACT Prep, BGCBC Scholarship Program, alumni tracking, and partnerships with local colleges, universities, and vocational schools. The goal of this position is to increase teen engagement, retain teen membership, and assist with post-secondary education preparation.

Program Management & Performance
  • Promote Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County Scholarship program and work with eligible teens to apply for scholarships, as well as creating a plan for post-secondary success.
  • Keep detailed attendance reports of all teens who participate in programming related to college readiness and scholarships.
  • Implement scholarship tracking for alumni and graduating seniors; Communicate with all scholarship recipients to receive required documents for scholarship renewal and distribution.
  • Assist Club Directors in Teen member engagement and retention of teens from local middle and high schools.
  • Communicate and establish sound relationships with local universities, vocational schools, and training programs to integrate college readiness programming and scholarship opportunities for teen members.
  • Register all graduating senior members into the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni and Friends Network.
  • Coordinate annual BGCBC Scholarship Celebration for recipients, parents, and donors.
  • Assist with the coordination of annual teen events including Annual Career Day, Youth of the Year, Generals Construction Career Day, and Teen Graduation Party.
  • Assist in special projects as needed (fundraising, field trips, and other organizational special events).
  • Create a plan to research scholarships offered by local and national entities and promote BGCBC members applying. Document all BGCBC members who apply and receive outside scholarships.
  • Work with the Director of Teen Initiatives to implement curriculum for specialized teen programing in college readiness including, but not limited to, college tours, admissions discussions, FAFSA Workshops, scholarship orientations, and SAT/ACT prep.
  • Utilize available Boys & Girls Clubs of America Teen Program Portal.
  • Stimulate teen interest in participating in Club and community events through developing a communication plan to distribute event information.
  • Ability to foster an environment that promotes enthusiasm and good character traits in our teen members.
Technical
  • Ability to interpret goals and objectives of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County
  • Ability to prepare written plans for program activities including goals, mechanics, needs, and budgets.
  • Possess a knowledge of child development stages and their relation to age-appropriate programming.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in relevant field from an accredited institution or some college.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Minimum of one year experience working with teens.
  • Maintain a safe driving record.
  • Ability to complete our internal transportation training within the first 60 days.
  • Ability to interact with diverse personalities, in a non-emotional, non-confrontational manner always displaying tact, maturity and flexibility; and the ability to address and de-escalate crisis.
  • Must be knowledgeable about secondary and post secondary schools and technical/vocational programs.
  • Must have knowledge about training, professional salaries, and projected employment needs for teen members.
Physical and Mental Requirements

Good sight and hearing; sitting for four hours per day; ability to work well with adolescents, providing empathy, guidance, coaching and mentoring skills. Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment. Position requirements include:

  • Walking–required to walk (for up to 4 hours) at Clubs and on tours as needed
  • Talking – constantly required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word Hearing – frequently required to work in a loud environment (especially in the gym and games rooms with the combined sounds of children and game equipment.)
  • Sight – position requires both close and distance visual acuity for computer work and monitoring children
  • Standing – occasionally required to stand for sustained periods of time (related to Club and Organizational events.)
  • Sitting – occasionally required to sit for up to 2 hours
  • Bending – occasionally required to bend
  • Fingering – occasionally required to type for extended periods of time (answering emails, writing reports, creating program documents, etc.)
  • Lifting – occasionally required to lift/move items up to 30 pounds
  • Worker will be subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions
