Job summary

Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking a College Counselor to build and sustain a college-going culture across high school campuses. You will lead college readiness programs, advise students and families, and collaborate with higher education partners to expand opportunities for IPS graduates.

The role requires a Master’s in School Counseling, a valid Indiana license, and a track record in college admissions or counseling. You will work within IPS to strengthen postsecondary planning and access.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in School Counseling, required.
• Valid Indiana State Teacher’s School Counselor license.
• Experience in the college admissions process, either guiding high school students in their application process or serving at the college level in admissions or career counseling, recommended.

Responsibilities

• Proactively create and develop positive relationships with all members of the school community (students, staff, families).
• Establish positive working relationships with colleges and universities, ensuring they are familiar with Indianapolis Public Schools and creating opportunities for successful admission of IPS students.
• Support the mission and educational goals of IPS Postsecondary Readiness (PSR) department to continue building the school’s college planning and counseling program, and advocate for the school and its students in the college admissions process.
• Provide leadership and management to all college readiness programs including: promote the college-going culture, maintain records and reports for applications, train and support Xello software, organize College GO! Week, arrange visits, invite admissions officers, work with diverse groups, monitor Year 14 graduates.
• Collaborate with students’ counselors to provide college programming (lessons, groups, advising) and with Future Center staff to coordinate services.
• Guide students and families through the college admissions and financial aid processes; support FAFSA and scholarships applications.
• Organize workshops on using Xello, CommonApp, and college applications; oversee essay writing and interview preparation.
