Job summary

CAMBA Inc. seeks a College Bound Instructor to support high school students’ college access across CAMBA locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan. You will track progress, counsel students, and help them navigate the college process.

You will coordinate with SUNY Buffalo State and SUNY Delhi classes, prepare postsecondary plans, and support families during admissions and financial aid steps. This full-time role offers opportunities to impact youth trajectories.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work or related field.
• Two years applicable experience working with youth.
• Proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel; MS Office literacy.

CAMBA partners with SUNY Buffalo State and SUNY Delhi to provide access to college credit-bearing classes for current transfer school students which will also include wraparound support at Lower East Side Preparatory High School, Brooklyn Academy and Brooklyn Bridge Academy

Position: College Bound Instructor

What The College Bound Instructor Does:

• Track student attendance and reach out to absent students (ie. phone calls, letters, home visits, etc.) daily.
• Counsel students regularly either through meetings in CAMBA offices, by telephone and/or home visits.
• Work with students to break through barriers to student goals and to assist students in advocating for themselves.
• Create and update on a regular basis post-secondary work plans for enrolled students.
• Recommend and implement strategies to enhance student engagement and participation in the program.
• Enter all required data into CAMBA’s online internal database system, Client Track.
• Create narrative case notes regarding student progress at each point of contact using Client Track.
• Assist students in completing all CAMBA intake applications and forms, as needed.
• Maintain professional relationships with clients while ensuring client confidentiality.
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including school administration and staff, students, funders, parents, and other community organizations and coalitions.
• Synthesize and distribute pertinent college access information.
• Provide guidance surrounding the college process including admissions, FAFSA applications, enrollment, registration, matriculation, and financial aid filing.
• Plan and organize program activities to achieve program contract goals and performance targets.
• Assist students in attaining their goals by identifying and connecting them with community resources and by making referrals to appropriate services, both within and outside CAMBA.
• Communicate effectively with students, peers, supervisors, and funders.
• Monitor students’ progress weekly.
• Review all documentation related to students’ progress for accuracy, completeness, and clarity.
• Participate in administrative and staff meetings as requested.
• Provide all required information for weekly, monthly, quarterly, semester, and annual reports to CAMBA management and/or to funders.
• Prepare marketing materials for the program as needed.
• Facilitate the SUNY Buffalo State Mastering the Academic Environment class and the Learning Community Program class.
• Assist the Assistant Program Manager with creating curriculum for two SUNY Buffalo State classes.
• Support parents through the college enrollment and financial aid application process and provide resources for them to support students’ coursework (i.e. through newsletters, office hours, and parent learning sessions).
• Sit in on English classes that are certified as Buffalo State college credit bearing, as well as virtual classes through SUNY Delhi.
• Accompany students on field trips to various colleges, including SUNY Buffalo State and SUNY Delhi.
• Support students in understanding course material, completing assignments, and managing their time effectively.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) in Education, Counseling, Social Work or a related field.

Other Requirements:

• Two (2) years applicable experience working with youth.
• Good written & verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Computer literacy in other Microsoft Office Suite products.

Compensation: $60,000 annually
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate.This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status: –Full-time (35 hours per week)
