College and Career Readiness Liaison
Purpose Statement

To increase the number of students actively pursuing post-secondary school or career options and to provide support for students through the process.

Essential Functions
  • Advise Juniors and Seniors on post secondary plans based on multiple data points including state and college entrance assessments.
  • Assist students with college and university admissions including review of college essays and writing letters of recommendation.
  • Work closely with AVID recruitment and students on post secondary plans, college exploration and high school planning.
  • Assisting students in exploring multiple post secondary options including, but not limited to college, university, career, military options, volunteer opportunities, trade school and apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Create and lead college and career workshops including topics such as FAFSA, Financial Aid, Admission process, Post-Secondary planning and College/Career Preview workshops.
  • Oversee the administration of college and career exams including the PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, ACT and SAT, ASVAB tests.
  • Create individual opportunities for students to review college and career test results and assist in planning for next steps, including review and re-testing strategies.
  • Create and develop marketing strategies and partnerships to increase the visibility of the College and Career Center both in the school and broader community.
  • Establish relationships with in-state and out-of-state colleges and universities to increase exposure of GCA students to post secondary institutions.
  • Oversee events in the College and Career Center.
  • Create and build a matriculation/post secondary plan database to track HHS graduate's post secondary plans and develop outreach programs with HHS alumni.
  • Utilize AZCIS to record and update students' college and career goals.
  • Participate in and coordinate career fairs, college fairs and information sessions about the college application process, apprenticeships and other career opportunities.
  • Provide career skill building workshops for students in areas such as resume writing, interviewing and utilizing online resources for job hunting and post secondary planning.
  • Work with the Gilbert Public Schools CTE Director and CTE teachers to inform students of opportunities and internships within CTE fields of study.
  • Establish relationships with local businesses to create internship, shadowing and volunteer responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Mental Requirements

Learning Development- Level E Knowledge in a recognized professional field or technological discipline sufficient to command various principles, facts, and practical applications. Learning development is obtained by the completion of a college curriculum resulting in a bachelor's degree in a specialized field; advanced mathematics, very advanced language development, proficient understanding of practical systems.

Problem Solving - Level 2 Work situations require consideration and interpretation of circumstances or information to choose the most effective responses. Solutions may be somewhat technical, yet are relatively straightforward, obvious and well-defined once problems are understood. Responses come from the realm of prior learning and experiences.

Physical Requirements

Physical Skill - Level A Basic level of learned physical skill is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.

Physical Effort - Level 1 Minimal physical exertion is required. Most job time is spent sitting with occasional walking. Occasional lifting, guiding, and carrying of lightweight materials or equipment.

Human Relations Skill- Level B Job requires patience in communication and well-developed verbal skills to exchange technical or complex information with individuals or small, informal groups. skills in establishing harmonious relationships and gaining cooperation are important.

Scope of Contacts - Level 1 The important job contacts are with peers in the immediate work group and immediate supervisor. Occasional contact with individuals outside the organization may occur.

Additional Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
  • Possess working knowledge of the current trends in post-secondary planning, college admissions, apprenticeships, trade schools and other post secondary options
  • Strong understanding and ability to use technology in an educational setting
  • Strong creative and communication skills.
  • The ability to work with a variety of people including students, parents, teachers, community and staff members.
  • Willingness to develop programs and partnerships that meet the needs of the students and community of assigned school.
Experience, Education, and Certifications

Experience: Bachelor's degree with five or more years as a successful classroom teacher OR five or more years working in a college admission setting or Master's in Counseling and three or more years as a successful high school counselor. Continuing Professional Development Specific to job requirements.

Education: Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree from an accredited college or university

Certifications/Clearances: Valid Arizona Standard Professional Teacher Certificate or an Arizona Standard Career and Technical Education (CTE) K-12 Certificate . Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed.
