Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (AQN), parent company of Liberty, is a leading energy and water utility with operations across the U.S. and Canada.

We are seeking a Field Service Lead to oversee Liberty crews, perform water distribution tasks, and ensure safe, compliant field operations. The role requires a Grade 3 Water Distribution Certificate, a valid driver's license, 5+ years in water utilities, and the ability to work independently or with teams, travel occasionally, and respond to

Qualifications

  • Must possess a Grade 3 Water Distribution Certificate, or have the ability to obtain within 18 months.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record; Class A driver's license required (location specific)
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of related experience in water utility
  • Be proficient in the use and functions of the CIS (Customer Information System) program
  • Must be able to work independently and responsibly with minimal supervision
  • Must have basic computer skills, including PC Windows operations
  • Able to follow company rules, procedures, and directions from supervisor/management
  • Must communicate well with coworkers and display leadership in safety issues
  • Be able to travel occasionally
  • Must perform a wide range of physically strenuous tasks
  • Obtains CPR and First Aid training
  • Able to perform most utility service tasks and operate all field equipment
  • Must be able to work standby, holidays, weekends, or overtime
  • Vacuum truck and Jetter experience

Responsibilities

  • Make thorough analysis and decisions of job details and emergencies
  • Lead Liberty staff and contractors
  • Assist in creating annual meter reading and weekly lock-off schedules
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Complete daily safety inspections and paperwork
  • Perform repairs to mains, services, meters, valves, and hydrants
  • Install, tap, re-line, disinfect, test, and connect water mains
  • Support shutdowns, disinfection, and restoration of water service
  • May take water quality samples
  • Set up traffic controls and ensure safety compliance
  • Follow safety policies and attend weekly meetings
  • Test meters and update CIS with results

Purpose

Responsible for carrying out all field related job details as related to the water industry. Responsible for carrying out and enforcing all safety rules to assure a safe workplace. Responsible for leading and directing Liberty and contractor crews. Ability to perform as a lead operator in absence of Supervisor of Field Service.

Accountabilities
  • Responsible for making thorough analysis and decisions of job details and emergencies
  • Organize, lead, and direct Liberty staff and contractors as required
  • Assists in creating annual meter reading and weekly lock-off schedules
  • Maintains and accounts for all tools and equipment and assigned vehicles
  • Fills out all paperwork on daily job safety inspection sheets
  • Performs leak repairs, maintains mains, fire hydrants, installation of new services, setting meters, changing out meters, and repairs services as needed
  • Completes all service orders and paperwork assigned daily
  • Assists in the preparation and completion of service orders and other paperwork
  • Operates various hand and power tools and mechanical equipment while installing, operating, and repairing mains, services, meters, valves, and fire hydrants
  • Helps install, tap, re-line, disinfect, test, and connect water mains and appurtenances
  • Involved in shutdowns, repairs, disinfects, and restores water service to customers and tests for leaks
  • May take water quality samples
  • Safely set up work area traffic controls
  • Repairs, disinfects, and tests broken water mains
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Reports all unsafe activities to supervisor, EHS Manager, and/or Human Resources
  • Attends and participates in weekly safety meetings
  • Perform and interpret meter testing and update CIS with test results
Education and Experience
  • Must possess a Grade 3 Water Distribution Certificate, or have the ability to obtain within 18 months. Grade 4 Water Distribution Certificate desired.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including, but not limited to, supervisors, coworkers, public, vendors, contractors, etc.
  • Be able to exercise independent judgment, discretion, professionalism, and tact in all areas of work including matters of a sensitive and/or confidential manner
  • Be able to travel occasionally
  • Must be able to perform a wide range of physically strenuous tasks
  • Obtains CPR and First Aid training
  • Able to perform most utility service tasks and operate all field equipment without direction or instruction
  • Must be able to work standby, holidays, weekends, or overtime as required
