Job summary

The Novato Sanitary District is seeking a qualified Collection System Worker I to perform maintenance, inspection, cleaning, and repairs on wastewater collection and reclamation systems, pump stations, and treatment facilities.

Ideal candidates will have basic maintenance experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and eligibility to work in the United States; CDL is preferred and residency within a 30-minute drive is desired for after-hours calls.

The Novato Sanitary District is seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and results-oriented professional to join its team as a Collection System Worker I.


The Collection System Worker I performs a full array of duties, including the maintenance of wastewater collection and reclamation systems, including inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and repairs on lines, pump stations, and treatment facilities. The selected candidate will demonstrate a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures, and work methods associated with assigned duties; perform other related duties as required.

  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

  • Live within a thirty-minute driving radius from the Treatment Plant for responding to after-hours call-outs.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:


Collection Systems Worker I

Some basic work experience in general maintenance operations and a high school diploma or equivalent.


Other Qualifications:



  • Live within a thirty-minute driving radius from the Treatment Plant for responding to after-hours call-outs if required.

  • Eligibility to work in the United States under appropriate federal regulations.

Retirement

CalPERS membership:



  • \"Classic\" (Pre-2013)—2% @ 60, 36-month formula

  • \"New or PEPRA\" (1/1/2013 and after)—2% @ 62, 36-month formula


Retirement Health Savings Account—District contributes 1.5% of base salary


Deferred Compensation Plans


  • 457(b) and Roth 457(b) plans with employer match

The District currently pays 100% of the premiums for employees and eligible dependents:



  • Selection of health care plans through CalPERS, up to the cost of the CalPERS Kaiser North Plan

Leave Benefits

The District provides paid vacation, accrued at 6.67 hours per month for the first three years, increasing thereafter in accordance with the District’s Personnel Rules and Regulations. Note: vacation leave may not be used until completion of at least six months of continuous service with the District.



  • Paid Sick Leave- 96 hours per year, accrued monthly

  • 12 paid holidays per year, plus 2 floating holidays after a year of service.

  • Compensatory Time Off (Nonexempt Employees)—Nonexempt employees may elect up to 80 hours of compensatory time off per year as compensation for overtime.


Schedule

9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off. After-hours as needed for emergencies.
