Cold Heading Operator

Reports to: Department Supervisor. Department: Cold Heading. Classification: Hourly. Division: Manufacturing. Shift: 2nd and 3rd.

JOB SUMMARY

Operators are responsible for all aspects of safely operating Cold Heading Machines. Candidates will load and feed wire, adjust settings, follow work instruction processes, and keep the work area clean and organized.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Learn and apply cold forming principles.
• Identify the difference in wire size.
• Read and understand steel labels and lot‑control tags.
• Grip and operate hand tools including electric grinder, bolt cutters, and wrenches.
• Follow 6‑S principles.
• Check parts for defects and perform CAQ on parts.
• Understand and measure parts using appropriate measuring tools.
• Use and analyze micrometers, calipers, and other measuring devices.
• Perform oil changes.
• Read job and tool cards.
• Perform basic tool changes, tear down, and clean up of machines.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Always work in a safe manner; safety and quality are priorities.
• Fill out required paperwork.
• Welding / wire work.
• Use of computer systems.
• Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Basic math skills, including decimals and fractions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Punctual, reliable, and team‑oriented.
• Equivalent 6+ months of manufacturing experience OR 1‑year experience as a mechanic in transportation, aviation, naval, or agricultural fields.

ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES

• Noise – laboratory machines.
• Chemicals, oils, acids, sprays, coolants, and solvents.
• Noise – heavy machinery – if in plant.
• Noise – vibratory bowls and air feed systems – if in plant.
• Responsible for complying with regulations and standards covered under OSHA as well as not damaging, moving, interfering or removing any safety related item that is provided.

• Training to be completed annually.
