Job summary

HRL Laboratories, LLC is seeking a researcher to advance next-generation intelligent systems across cognitive state sensing, multimodal AI, and adaptive software prototypes for mission-driven R&D programs.

You will lead research and engineering efforts in HMI, cognitive modeling, and LLM-driven scenarios, collaborating across disciplines to improve explainability and human-AI collaboration. A strong academic background and 3–5 years in ML/AI are expected.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Applied Math, Cognitive Science, or related fields.
• 3–5 years of applied ML/AI experience.
• Experience with government funded R&D programs (DARPA/IARPA/ARPA-H) is a plus.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to research, engineering, and software development efforts.
• Build AI models integrating neurophysiological and sensor data for cognitive decision support.
• Develop cognitive state estimation and user modeling algorithms.
• Demonstrate prototypes and support capability outreach.
