Job summary

University-Health-3 is seeking a Health Information Coder to join our Health Information Management team. You will code inpatient, outpatient surgery and observation visits using ICD-9-CM and CPT coding systems, ensuring accurate documentation and compliant coding practices.

You will assist in training new coding technicians and promote the health system's guest relations policy to support quality service and accurate billing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Formal education through accredited coding program required.
• RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CPC certification required.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Works under the direct supervision of the Coding and Reimbursement Manager, Health Information Management. Codes inpatient, outpatient surgery and observation visits utilizing the ICD-9-CM and CPT coding classification systems. Assists in the training of new coding technicians when appropriate. Promotes the Health System's guest relations' policy.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or it's equivalent is required. Must have three years of inpatient coding experience. Formalized education and training through an accredited coding program required. Candidate will also possess one of the following certifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator, (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or CPC (Certified Professional Coder). Knowledgable of regulatory requirements. Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft Office products as well as 3M Encoding and Grouping software.
