Job summary

Aspire Rural Health System is hiring a Coding Specialist in Marlette, MI. The role focuses on accurate diagnostic and procedure coding for patient encounters, with emphasis on documentation review and payer-ready charges.

Qualifications

• Completion of examination requirements for RHIT/CCA/CCS or CBCS/CPC/COC/CIC, with AHIMA or AAPC credentials preferred.
• CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 coding experience is preferred; new coders must become certified within one year of hire.
• Working knowledge with computer applications including EPIC, 3M, and Solventum.
• Ability to cope with the stresses of a healthcare environment, meeting volume benchmarks and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assign Diagnostic, Quality, and procedure codes accurately and efficiently for patient encounters and related charges.
• Review records to ensure documentation supports coding and billing; query providers and departments as needed for accuracy.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare providers to maintain high-quality coding standards.

Requirements:

• Completion of examination requirements for any of the following: Association for Rural & Community Health Professional Coding, Critical Access Hospital Coding and Billing Specialist, Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). National Health career Association (NHA) Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) American Academy Processional Coders (AAPC) as Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) or Certified Inpatient coded (CIC), Preferred credentials from AHIMA or AAPC.
• CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 coding experience preferred. New coders (hires) will be require to become certified within one year from date of hire.
