Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Coding Coordinator within HIM Coding. You will monitor operations, work with physicians and third‑party suppliers, and ensure timely, complete documentation under the Master Services Agreement. Strong ICD‑10 and CPT knowledge, plus KPI tracking, are essential to optimize processes and protect patient data.

The role emphasizes team collaboration, policy support, and ongoing coding guidance while upholding confidentiality and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Education requirement: Associate's degree or 2 years of related experience.
• Experience: 4+ years in coding/health information management.
• Certifications: CCS/CCS-P/CIC/COC/CPC/RHIA/RHIT or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Act as liaison between Baylor Scott & White Health, providers, and third-party suppliers.
• Monitor KPIs/CPIs and ensure service performance and quality.
• Communicate issues to Manager/Director and help implement solutions.
• Develop policies, procedures, and standard processes for coding areas.
• Educate physicians and clinicians on coding guidelines and documentation improvement.
• Develop educational materials and stay current with coding regulations.
• Perform routine coding quality reviews as needed.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and promote excellent customer relations.

Job Summary

The Coding Coordinator monitors operations, functions, workflow, and services by third-party suppliers for HIM Coding. The Coding Coordinator works with the Coding Manager and physicians to ensure timely, complete documentation. Third-party suppliers must complete assignments per the Master Services Agreement and related Statements of Work.

Essential Functions of the Role

• Acts as a service area liaison between Baylor Scott and White Healthcare, providers, and third-party suppliers. Eliminates roadblocks, resolves issues, achieves optimization, improves processes, and develops cost‑saving measures.

• Use key performance metrics to track services for areas of responsibility. Monitor supplier compliance with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Critical Performance Indicators (CPIs).

• Effectively communicates findings of potential issues to Manager or Director.

• Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and standard processes for areas of responsibility.

• Educates physicians, clinicians, and others on coding, guidelines, and documentation improvement. Works with physicians to ensure accurate and complete documentation.

• Assists in the development of materials utilized in educational activities.

• Reviews and stays abreast of new regulations and coding guidelines.

• May perform routine coding quality reviews on coders and/or auditors including third‑party suppliers as needed.

• Maintains and protects the confidentiality of patient protected health information, serving as a role model by demonstrating effective customer relations.

QUALIFICATIONS

• EDUCATION - Associate's or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification

• EXPERIENCE - 4 Years of Experience

• CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Cert Coding Specialist (CCS), Cert Coding Spec Physician Bas (CCS-P), Cert Inpatient Coder (CIC), Cert Interv Radiology CV Coder (CIRCC), Cert Outpatient Coder (COC), Cert Professional Coder (CPC), Reg Health Info Administrator (RHIA), Reg Health Information Technic (RHIT): Must have one of these certifications: CCS, CCS-P, CIRCC, COC, CPC, RHIA, RHIT.
