Job Summary
The primary function of this position is to support FCN staff and clinicians regarding coding and documentation requirements. Duties include monitoring and responding to coding reviews, and performing internal chart audits.
Essential Job Functions
- Conduct chart audits for possible documentation changes needed to support coding; provide feedback to enhance record accuracy.
- Research coding errors, identify trends, and assist in problem‑solving solutions.
- Monitor coding review desktop and answer coding questions from physicians, advanced practice providers, managers, and billing staff.
- Assist in developing coding and billing training plans for providers and staff.
- Process billings in accordance with insurance carrier requirements.
- Seek assistance as needed and communicate questions in a timely manner to appropriate staff.
- Adhere to assigned work schedule (attendance and punctuality).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proven experience with healthcare coding and billing processes.
- Deep working knowledge of diagnosis and procedural coding.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- AAPC or AHIMA coding certification or comparable job‑related experience.
- Proven experience keyboarding and data entry accurately and efficiently.
- Attention to detail and ability to perform detailed work accurately.
- Intermediate computer skills: health information systems, EMR, MS Word & MS Excel.
- Knowledge of claims processing for medical billing. Working knowledge of Form 1500, CPT and ICD codes; calculate accurate payment amounts on insurance. Specialized knowledge of commercial insurance, federal and state billing requirements.
- Demonstrated customer service skills.
- Proven knowledge of a medical office practice and medical terminology.
- Problem‑solving skills: identify and resolve issues and concerns professionally.
- Experience working as part of a team and modeling a positive work ethic and customer‑friendly relations.
- Prioritization and multitasking skills to handle detailed projects with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to establish positive employee relations, including conflict resolution.
- Experience in maintaining confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and related laws.
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written, with patients and personnel.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical office experience preferred.
- AAPC or AHIMA Coding Certification required.

- Occasional lifting or moving up to 30 pounds.
