Job description

Executive Recruiter @ Plastic Executive Recruiters

We are looking for a Codes and Testing Engineer / Compliance Engineer to lead product testing and certification efforts for innovative building materials. In this role, you’ll ensure our products meet industry standards and code requirements by managing in-house testing, coordinating third‑party certifications, and supporting R&D initiatives.

This role is remote, however it will require travel to and from labs, vendors and customers often. There is also an on site option to work either in Iowa or Georgia. To qualify for the remote option, you must have direct experience with roofing standards, certification and product development.

Role Overview

This position blends hands‑on testing with regulatory strategy. You’ll work across departments to develop test plans, ensure code compliance, and guide products through validation from concept to launch.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute product testing to meet internal performance goals and third‑party certification requirements.
  • Develop and maintain testing procedures, protocols, and documentation aligned with industry standards (ASTM, UL, ICC, etc.).
  • Manage testing schedules and sample submissions to external labs and certification agencies.
  • Analyze results and provide actionable feedback to R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Track changes in codes and standards to inform product development strategy.
  • Support failure analysis and troubleshoot performance or compliance issues.
  • Assist in preparing technical documentation for certifications, claims, and customer inquiries.
  • Travel to and from labs, vendors, customers, etc. (~20‑50%)
Qualifications
  • Ability to work remote and travel often or work on site near Iowa City, Iowa or Atlanta, Georgia.
  • To qualify for the remote work, you must have direct experience with roofing codes and standards and have worked with product development initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in product testing, validation, or certification—ideally in construction, building products, or materials.
  • Familiarity with testing standards such as ASTM, UL, and ICC‑ES.
  • Strong data analysis and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with shifting priorities.
  • Detail‑oriented with a strong focus on documentation and quality.
  • Must be willing to travel, including overnight stays. (20‑50%)
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with construction or other exterior materials.
  • Roofing codes and standards knowledge.
  • Knowledge of product codes, certification processes, and regulatory agencies.
  • Hands‑on experience with lab testing equipment or mechanical/materials testing methods.
  • Experience supporting new product development or R&D functions.
  • Salary: $100,000 – $150,000 depending on experience.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and sick time.
  • Collaborative, fast‑paced work environment focused on innovation and performance.
