Job summary

Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center is seeking a Coder to assign ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes, modifiers, and E/M codes. The role interacts with medical staff and outside organizations on coding audits and documentation needs.

Qualifications

• High School is required.
• Certifications in coding (CCA, CCS, RHIT, RHIA) are required or held.
• Endorsements for E/M auditing and CPC credentials preferred.
• Professional credentials with AHIMA or equivalent are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and confirm encounters for EM code level using auditing tools.
• Request clarification to assist physicians with record documentation.
• Educate physicians and staff on documentation needed for coding.
• Contact physician offices for diagnostic information to code encounters.
• Assist training of new coding staff as requested.
• Code all encounter types per ICD-CM, CPT and guidelines, with accuracy.
• Ensure data quality and maximize allowable reimbursement.

Job description

Coder – Professionals are responsible for professional coding includes the assignment of ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes, modifiers, and evaluation and management (E/M codes) provider audits. Interacts with medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, provider offices, and outside organizations.

Accepting remote workers in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas.

Department: Physician Coding Hours: Full time, 40 hours/week Shift: 1st Location: Remote or On-site.

Pay: Based on experience, starting at $22.72.

Compensation Estimated Compensation Range $22.72 - $35.22 Pay based on experience.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and confirm assigned encounters for provider’s selection of EM code level utilizing EM code level selection auditing tool.
• Assists physicians with record documentation needs by requesting clarification for additional information.
• Assists in educating physicians and ancillary staff members about documentation needed for coding process.
• Contacts physician offices and/or SBL departments as needed for diagnostic information to code the encounter.
• Assists with training new coding staff as requested.
• Codes all types of encounters as assigned and assists co-workers as needed.
• Codes and resolves clinic, hospitalist, ED, and applicable ancillary services professional encounters based on established production standards.
• Ensures data quality and optimum reimbursement allowable under the federal and state payment systems.
• Meets quality standards of having 95% of diagnoses and procedures appropriately and/or correctly coded.
• Performs follow-up on encounters that need to be coded and resolved.
• Reviews and corrects all encounters that are rejected or denied.
• Reviews record thoroughly to ascertain all diagnoses/procedures.
• Codes all diagnoses/procedures in accordance to ICD-CM and CPT coding principles, official guidelines and regulations.
