Job summary

DaMar Staffing is seeking a Coding Specialist for a 100% remote role. You will assign codes to medical diagnoses and procedures using appropriate classifications and review records for accuracy and completeness.

The position requires strong attention to detail, analytical and communication skills, with certifications such as CPC/CCS/CCS-P or RHIA/RHIT preferred; a high school diploma or GED is acceptable with credentials pursued within 1 year.

Qualifications

• Must have AHIMA or AAPC coding certification per position level.
• RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CCA/CPC/CPC-H within 1 year is preferred or required.
• Experience with medical record review and coding systems is expected.

Responsibilities

• Reviews medical records to determine all diagnostic and procedural code assignments.

Coding Specialist

This position is 100% remote. Eligible out-of-state candidates may be considered.

Summary: Assigns codes to medical diagnoses and procedures using appropriate coding classifications for assigned areas/record types.

Responsibilities:

• Reviews medical records to determine all appropriate diagnostic and procedural code assignments using the appropriate classifications systems.
• Assigns charges for applicable clinics/departments as appropriate.
• Communicates with department manager/supervisor on coding, compliance and documentation issues.
• Seeks clarification from healthcare providers or other designated resources to ensure accurate and complete coding. Enhances coding knowledge and skills with continuing education activities and by reviewing pertinent literature.
• Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Requirements:

• Credentials: Essential: Certified Coding Specialist, Certified Professional Coder, Reg Health Info Technician, Certified Hospital Outpatient Coder, Reg. Health Information Admin, Certified Prof. Coder Apprentice, CERT CODING SPEC-PHYSICIAN, Certified Medical Coder, Certified Coding Associate, Certified Outpatient Coder, Certified Ambulance Coder
• High School diploma GED. ADDITIONAL POSITION LEVEL CREDENTIAL INFORMATION: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC, CPC-H within 1 year.
• Preferred: Job related experience
• Coding-related certification from AHIMA or AAPC as determined at position level.
