Shift:

Description: Provides high-level technical competency and subject matter expertise analyzing physician/provider documentation in Inpatient health records to determine diagnoses, procedures, and assign appropriate codes and indicators such as MS-DRG, APR DRG, POA, SOI, and ROM. Utilizes encoder software and references to ensure accurate coding and reimbursement.

Essential Functions:

• Demonstrates understanding of Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values.
• Accurately navigates health records and systems to determine diagnosis and procedure codes, MS-DRG, APR DRG, HACs, and PSIs.
• Codes inpatient health records using encoder software and online tools, supporting accurate documentation and billing.
• Reviews documentation to support coding accuracy and reduce denials.
• Works with claim edits and accounts to ensure compliance with coding rules.
• Adheres to quality and productivity standards.
• Communicates effectively with healthcare providers for clarifications.
• Uses EMR tools to track documentation and follow-up queries.
• Collaborates with HIM and PBS teams to resolve billing issues.
• Maintains CEUs and stays updated on coding guidelines and regulations.
• Identifies and addresses workflow or documentation issues impacting coding.
• Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completion of an AHIMA-approved coding program or equivalent education/experience. Bachelor’s preferred.
• RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification required.
• At least 3 years of acute care or inpatient coding experience.
• Proficiency with encoding software, ICD coding, and MS-DRG assignment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to research and analyze information.

Hourly Pay Range: $27.41 - $41.13
