City of New Orleans Government is seeking an entry-level inspector to begin work inspecting dwellings and ensuring compliance with minimum housing standards. The role, housed within Safety & Permits, includes training to inspect short-term rental facilities and enforce city ordinances related to safety, sanitation, and neighborhood quality of life.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, and either 60 college credits or two years of relevant public-contact or enforcement experience.
Kind of Work Beginning level work inspecting dwellings to secure compliance with laws, ordinances, and regulations governing minimum housing standards; and related work as required. The incumbent in this position with Safety & Permits will be trained to inspect short-term rental facilities and make sure the follow city ordinances and regulations for short-term rentals, safety, sanitation, and neighborhood quality-of-life.
High School graduation or G.E.D. Equivalency Diploma. EITHER: Sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university. OR: Two (2) years of experience involving heavy public contact, general compliance, investigatory, or enforcement experience. Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license. Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
A written examination, weighted 100%. This is an original entrance examination.
