The City of Palm Bay is seeking a Code Enforcement Inspector to help secure compliance with city ordinances and codes. You will investigate complaints, inspect properties for safety and zoning conformity, and communicate with residents and other departments to resolve violations.
Responsibilities include gathering evidence for hearings, maintaining thorough records, and testifying when required. A valid Florida driver’s license is necessary.
Graduation from high school or equivalent plus a minimum of three (3) years of verifiable experience in one of the following areas: customer service, building trades, code compliance/enforcement, or law enforcement. Preferred candidates will have experience in governmental customer service. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Must obtain a Florida Association of Code Enforcement (F.A.C.E.) Fundamentals of Code Enforcement Certification within 12 months from date of hire.
Code 2: Non-essential employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency but may be required to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency. On an incident-by-incident basis, the employee's Department Head will make the determination when the employee will be required to work.
Under general supervision, performs skilled inspection work in securing compliance with established codes and City's ordinances. Employee is responsible for the interpretation, application and enforcement of rules and regulations relating to City Ordinances; refers complaints and violations to the proper department. Work involves responding to complaints from property owners and/or referrals; investigating and researching complaints; follow-up on previously cited properties; preparing evidence for upcoming cases. Reports to the Code Compliance Manager.
