Job summary

Sarasota County's Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources department is seeking an Environmental Specialist III to lead habitat projects, manage invasive species, and perform ecological surveys within coastal park spaces. You will oversee contracted landscape maintenance, engage with agencies and the public, and help educate communities about coastal resources while ensuring safe, clean facilities.

This full-time role requires collaboration across departments, field operations in varied

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental sciences or related field.
• Three years of professional environmental experience.
• Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.
• State pesticide applicator license with Natural Areas endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Lead habitat improvement projects and invasive species control.
• Conduct ecological surveys and park improvements.
• Oversee derelict vessel removal and artificial reef initiatives.
• Inspect landscape work by contractors for safety and quality.
• Maintain equipment and assist in prescribed fire operations.
• Develop environmental education materials and public outreach.
