Job summary

San Antonio Spurs Sports & Entertainment is hiring a Coaching Analyst to weave analytics into coaching workflows. You will develop tools and analyses to support coaching decisions, player development, and game strategy, collaborating across Basketball Operations Analytics.

You will mine basketball data using SQL and statistical tools, present findings to coaches, and contribute to ongoing analytics initiatives within the organization.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in SQL and data analysis for basketball analytics.
• Experience with Python or R for data analysis.
• Knowledge of advanced basketball statistics and analytics resources.
• Excellent communication with staff across quantitative backgrounds.
• Willingness to work long hours, weekends, travel.

Responsibilities

• Leverage analytical skills to interpret basketball needs and translate them into statistical processes.
• Partner with coaching staff on analysis of team philosophy, player development, performance, lineups, and strategy.
• Analyze opponents game-by-game: pre-game scouting, in-game adjustments, post-game review.
• Collaborate with Manager of Coaching Analytics and Basketball Operations Analytics to align methodologies, reporting, tools, and data infrastructure.
• Perform ad hoc data mining on basketball data using SQL, Python, or R.
• Develop and implement basketball studies related to game strategy.
• Communicate statistical findings to coaches and staff regularly.
• Other related duties as assigned.
