Job summary

The City of Wheat Ridge is seeking a seasonal program supervisor to oversee sports practices and meets at the Rec Center in Wheat Ridge, CO. You will coordinate coaches, ensure equipment readiness, and engage families and volunteers to support youth activities.

Responsibilities include directing practices, attending meetings, liaising with league organizers, and maintaining safety standards while promoting community programs.

Job DetailsJob Location: Rec Center - Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 Position Type: Seasonal Salary Range: $18.50 - $22.58 Hourly


Wheat Ridge is located on the ancestral homelands of Native peoples who lived on and stewarded this land long before its incorporation. During the 1859 Gold Rush, the City was a rest stop for miners and later named for its golden wheat fields. As unsuccessful miners turned to farming, the area thrived with orchards, vegetable fields, and later, greenhouses, earning the title “Carnation City.” Incorporated in 1969, Wheat Ridge now offers a central location with easy access to Denver and the Rocky Mountains. It operates as a home-rule city with a council-manager government, where the elected council sets policy, and the manager oversees daily operations and budgeting.

Responsible for overall supervision, marketing, planning of sports team; overseeing coaches assisting with program(s); and, conducting team practice sessions and meets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:


  • Plan, direct and supervise all practices and meets

  • Attend meetings

  • Act as liaison between league and parents

  • Ensure that all scheduled assistant coaches are present to perform assigned duties

  • Ensure all necessary equipment is available, is setup and properly functioning

  • Promote use of facilities/programs through public relations efforts

  • Recruit volunteer parents as needed to assist as score keepers, timers, team managers, etc.

  • Provide feedback to parents and program supervisor

  • Ensures safety regulations and procedures are adhered to

  • Perform related work as required and assigned


Work is performed in accordance with standard practice and methods requiring initiative to complete recurring assignments independently and judgment to determine which methods are applicable in any given situation. Finished work is reviewed for accuracy, quality, and completeness. Unfamiliar situations are referred to the supervisor.


Qualifications & Experience


  • Knowledge: Working knowledge of all skills/techniques necessary to conduct a comprehensive program relative to area assigned; of league rules, requirements; of competition workouts; of appropriate prescribed policies and procedures.

  • Skills: Demonstrated skill in operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.

  • Abilities: To strive for excellence without winning being the priority; work tactfully with parents; motivate students in a positive way; communicate effectively with the general public and co-workers; make quick decisions when needed; follow and enforce established rules and regulations; work flexible hours.

  • Training: High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year coaching in an organized relative program; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
