Job summary

Jefferson City School District is seeking a Coach – Head for elementary football to support its 9,000 students across multiple schools. The role focuses on coaching, skill development, discipline, and fostering self-esteem among participants.

The coach will work with the Activities Director, plan regular in-season practices, schedule contests, and ensure safety and compliance with district policies. A Missouri teaching certificate is required, with prior coaching experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Missouri teacher certificate.
• Must be employed as a teacher in the Jefferson City School District.
• Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport preferred.
• Any board-approved alternatives to qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellence in the sport involved.
• Plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season.
• Work closely with the athletic director in scheduling interscholastic contests.
• Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate.
• Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
• Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
• Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in the coach’s sport.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
• Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
• Organizes and supervises a total sports program.
• Complies with good safety practices.
• Complies with all district rules, regulations and policies.
• Other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary as may be assigned.

Purpose Statement

The Jefferson City School District is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Coach – Head to aid in serving the district’s 9,000 students who attend 11 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 2 high schools, 1 alternative school, 1 pre-school and a variety of alternative educational offerings and services.

The Coach will work with applicable directors to ensure the highest possible level of service is delivered to students while fostering a culture of academic excellence. Further, the Coach will help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

Essential Functions

Skills/Qualifications

• Valid Missouri teacher certificate.
• Employment as a teacher in the Jefferson City School District.
• Previous coaching experience in assigned sport, preferred.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may deem appropriate.

Miscellaneous Requirements

Clearances

Background clearance required; the results of which must be satisfactory to the District.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Must be able to demonstrate performance in physical situations including weather or surface related areas as well as working on game plans or other related tasks that would be done by the head coach.
