Job summary

Norfolk Public Schools is seeking a SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER for 5th–6th grade to enable students with learning disabilities to achieve meaningful educational progress. The role emphasizes direct instruction, co-teaching, and collaboration with a building principal and Special Education Coordinator.

The teacher will work on-site in Nebraska, participate in a multi-disciplinary team, and maintain IEPs, progress notes, and accurate records while supporting students with tailored remediation plans

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college
• Valid Nebraska teaching certificate
• Training and/or experience in special education teaching
• Ability to communicate objectives clearly in writing and orally

Responsibilities

• Team teaches and provides consultation to classroom teacher, parents, principal, and supervisor
• Maintain a dual role working with individuals or small groups and with the classroom teacher
• Coordinate with building personnel to inform parents/guardians of progress
• Update IEPs in accordance with Rule 51
• Be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team
• Collect assessment data and use it effectively
• Carry over skills to the regular classroom
• Keep accurate attendance and progress records
• Modify regular classroom assignments to support student needs
• Provide modified materials and guidance to teachers and staff
• Communicate objectives clearly to be carried out
• Demonstrate patience and professionalism with children and parents
