Job summary

Johns Hopkins is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Brady Urological Institute and Department of Urology. This role partners with faculty physicians to deliver high-quality, coordinated care to patients with urologic diseases and participate in NIH/POCRI funded clinical trials.

The PA will recruit, consent, and follow-up subjects, assist with clinic duties, and support data processing and analysis, while adhering to hospital policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program.
  • Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.
  • Current CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients and take medical histories; perform physical examinations and order tests.
  • Educate patients and families to promote wellness and manage illness.
  • Prescribe and regulate medications per provider policies.
  • Document health assessment data and coordinate services.
  • Serve as liaison between urology team and other providers.
  • Triage patient questions and relay results according to protocol.

We are seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Brady Urological Institute and Department of Urology. This role will partner with faculty physicians to deliver Hopkins quality, continuous care to patients with urologic diseases. Patients in the practice are drawn from local, national and international locales and often require coordination of multidisciplinary care. The Physician Assistant (PA) is an independent health care provider working cooperatively within a multi‑disciplinary health team and is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients. This position will assist with important NIH/POCRI funded clinical trials aiming to study transrectal versus trans perineal prostate biopsy. This will involve helping recruit, consent, and follow‑up subjects as well as data processing and analysis.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for complex, standardized patient care procedures, to include interviewing patients, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering laboratory tests, making tentative diagnosis, and prescribing appropriate treatments.
  • Educates patients and/or their families in order to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health and intervene in acute or chronic illness.
  • Prescribe and regulate medications per provider-Physician institutional agreements.
  • Record and document health assessment data necessary to maintain, coordinate and/or expedite required services.
  • Ensure patient and physician calls are returned in a timely manner and all patient interactions (phone, conversations, visits, etc) are documented appropriately.
  • Function as liaison between the urology team and primary care providers, nurse case managers, inpatient personnel and health care professionals in other specialties.
  • Triage phone calls, answer questions from patients including instructions, medications, refills, biopsies, test results and other aspects of clinical care.
  • Call patients with results according to protocol.
  • Acts in the role of mentors and/or consultant to nurses, physicians, students, and other health care professionals.
  • Assume responsibility for own professional development and remains current in clinical practice by attending relevant continuing education, manage‑operate independent clinic, provide intervention as needed and triage complex cases appropriately.
  • Coordinate scheduling of complicated patient treatment.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for time management, professional relationships and interpersonal interactions.
  • Regularly attend all outpatient clinics.
  • Assist physician with patient management in the clinic. Manage/operate independent clinics.
  • Assess and/or manage follow‑up plans specific to the patient’s needs. Records and documents health assessment data necessary.
  • Maintains, coordinates and expedites required services.
  • Consistently requests consultations with appropriate departments when necessary.
  • Works collaboratively and provides leadership to optimize team performance and patient outcomes.
  • Design/develop research protocols, develop SOP and oversee study related activities for one or more studies.
  • Adheres to JH Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to Clinical Operations Group Service Standards.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program. Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.
  • Experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working in Urology preferred.
