Your Impact at LILA

Lila is actively seeking talented and motivated students to join us in ushering in a new era of scientific intelligence. Throughout your co‑op, you'll have the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with diverse engineering teams spanning multiple disciplines, gaining hands‑on experience testing and validating cutting‑edge tooling while making meaningful contributions across a variety of projects.

What You'll Be Building
  • Work with cross‑functional engineering teams to design, develop, and implement software and hardware tools that enable SSI (Scientific Super Intelligence) and advance scientific discovery through intelligent automation.
  • Onboard laboratory equipment onto our AISF platform by installing custom software, testing equipment processes, and ensuring seamless operation within our automated infrastructure.
  • Document learnings, observations, and contributions for internal teams to review and iterate on, helping improve our processes and methodologies.
  • Participate in additional engineering initiatives and special projects, contributing your skills to support the Next Gen Engineering team's goals.
What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in a STEM field (e.g., Bioengineering, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Science).
  • Proficiency or strong interest in software development and programming.
  • Experience with hands‑on projects or prototyping that demonstrates technical curiosity.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in team environments.
Bonus Points For
  • Passionate about the intersection of lab automation and AI.
  • Experience working with scientific equipment in academic labs.
  • Familiarity with bench science assays.
  • Nice to have: a track record of defining your own role in complex projects.
