Job summary

UMass Chan Medical School is seeking a Maintenance Co-Generation Engineer II to supervise the operation of the 13,000-volt main circuit breakers and the production of steam, electricity, and chilled water. You will lead a team across 12-hour shifts to meet load demands and coordinate with facilities operations.

The role requires strong knowledge of power plant systems, turbines, boilers, generators, safety and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Requires MA Second Class Engineers License or higher.
  • 2–4 years experience in modern power plant, operating turbine generators, or steam driven chiller experience.
  • Knowledge of safety practices around 13,800 volts and rotating equipment.
  • Experience with large condensing steam turbine-driven equipment and associated auxiliaries.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises operation of watch for steam, electric power, and refrigeration production.
  • Coordinates power switchovers with utility / grid when needed.
  • Operates heat recovery steam generator, and boilers with supervision of auxiliary equipment.
  • Oversees turbine generators, condensers, pumps, and related auxiliaries; logs observations.
  • Monitors power demand, load response, power factor, frequency, and voltage adjustments.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and basic repairs; supports maintenance trades as required.
