The role focuses on Java development with some Python; it includes system administration tasks in a Linux and MongoDB environment and requires strong problem solving and collaboration on architectural decisions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of twelve years of software/system development work experience or a Master’s in Computer Science/Engineering with four years of equivalent experience
• Experience with three or more areas: system requirements analysis, software design, development, integration, and testing
• Eight+ years in four or more areas: C/C++, Java, Unix/Linux, Windows environments, XML/JSON/SQL, and scripting

Description

Design, develop, and maintain backend libraries and services that transform diverse data formats into a common, reusable schema consumed by multiple applications across the organization. This is a hands on technical role focused primarily on Java development, with secondary responsibility for Python based components where needed. There is no UI work; the emphasis is on building robust libraries and integration services that can reliably ingest, interpret, and convert constantly changing data sources into a standardized internal model. In addition to core development responsibilities, this role includes a system administration component. The engineer will help manage and optimize MongoDB services, work within a Linux ecosystem, and perform operational tasks such as upgrading servers, installing RPMs, monitoring services, and troubleshooting environment issues.

Key responsibilities include, designing and implementing data ingestion and transformation logic, creating and maintaining shared libraries for common data formats, ensuring performance and scalability, and contributing to architectural decisions around data modeling and integration patterns. The role also involves collaborating through modern development practices, including Git based source control, code reviews, and continuous improvement of development workflows.

The ideal candidate has deep experience in Java (and familiarity with Python), a strong understanding of working with varied data formats (e.g., JSON, XML, CSV, and custom structures), and practical experience administering Linux based systems and MongoDB in production environments. Strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to engage in both development and operational tasks are critical for success in this role.

Clearance

A current Top-Secret/SCIwith polygraph security clearance is required. Candidates cannot be sponsored or nominated for a government security clearance under this position.

Experience

Shall have a minimum of a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Mathematics or similar STEM degree and a minimum of Twelve (12) years of software/system development work experience or a Masters of Computer Science or Computer Engineering (Four (4) years of equivalent related experience may be substituted for Bachelor degree).

• Minimum of six (6) years of experience with technical expertise in three (3) or more of the following areas:
  • System Requirements Analysis
  • Software System Design
  • Software System Development
  • Software System Integration
  • Software System Testing
• At least eight (8) years of work experience in four or more of the following areas:
  • Developing software applications in C, C++, C#, Java, ASPE.NET and Web Forms.
  • Developing software applications for Unix, Linux, or Windows environments.
  • Developing DLLs for the Windows environment.
  • Development on computer telephony platforms using computer telephony cards such as Dialogic.
  • Object-oriented design and programming.
  • Working knowledge of common protocols/standards such as TCP/IP, SNMP, H.323, X.25, 802.11, 802.16, SIP, MEGACO, or MGCP.
  • Web development, with proven knowledge of XML, php, mySQL, ColdFusion, or Apache.
  • Script writing using Perl, Python, Bourne shell, C shell, or other proprietary scripting languages.
  • Database experience with Sybase, Oracle, Microsoft, Mongo or similar databases.
  • Reverse engineering and analysis of software.
  • Kernel knowledge of Unix (Linux).
  • Bit-level data analysis.
