Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; machinist training preferred.
  • 5+ years of CNC/manual vertical milling experience.
  • Strong understanding of feeds, speeds, tooling, and work holding.
  • Able to read blueprints, specifications, and GD&T symbols.
  • Experience editing machine programs (G-code or conversational).
  • Skilled in precision measurement with micrometers, calipers, height gauges.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
  • Independent, detail-oriented with safety focus.

Description

We are seeking a mid-level e Vertical Milling Machinist to set up and operate CNC and/or manual vertical milling machines to produce high-quality precision parts. This role is ideal for a machinist with solid hands-on experience who can work independently, troubleshoot routine issues, and consistently meet quality and production expectations.


Responsibilities


  • Set up and operate CNC and/or manual vertical milling machines

  • Install and align tooling, vises, fixtures, and workpieces

  • Select appropriate speeds, feeds, and cutting tools

  • Perform machining operations including milling, contouring, pocketing, drilling, tapping, and boring

  • Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and basic to intermediate GD&T

  • Set tool offsets and work coordinates

  • Make basic program edits at the machine (G-code or conversational, if applicable)

  • Inspect parts using precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances

  • Adjust processes as needed to maintain quality and efficiency

  • Troubleshoot common machining, tooling, and setup issues

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and machine care

  • Complete job travelers and inspection documentation

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area

Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational machining training preferred

  • 5+ years of experience operating and setting up CNC and/or manual vertical milling machines

  • Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and work holding methods

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and GD&T symbols

  • Experience making basic machine program edits and adjusting offsets

  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and indicators

  • Ability to hold close tolerances and verify finished parts meet quality requirements

  • Experience troubleshooting setup, tooling, and machining issues

  • Knowledge of shop mathematics, including basic geometry and trigonometry

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards

  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to workplace safety

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with Haas, Mazak, Okuma, Fanuc, or similar CNC controls

  • Familiarity with aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and other common machining materials

  • Experience in low-volume, high-mix, or precision manufacturing environments

  • Forklift and/or overhead crane experience

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement practices

  • Certification through NIMS or a related machining program systems


Physical Requirements


  • Ability to stand for extended periods

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs

  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail

  • Comfortable working in a machine shop environment
