Job summary

Modern Industries is seeking an experienced CNC tooling assembler in Tempe to build and prepare tool assemblies for production. You will work with CAT, HSK, BT, Capto, and other tool holders, selecting correct components and ensuring accuracy.

Proficiency with WinTool and tool inspection is essential. You will collaborate with CNC programmers, engineers, and machinists to resolve tooling issues, troubleshoot runout, stick-out, and collet concerns, and maintain a well-organized tooling area on

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of CNC tooling, machining, tool crib, setup, or related manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with horizontal machining centers.
  • Experience working with CNC machinists, programmers, and manufacturing engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Build and prepare CNC tooling assemblies for production.
  • Work with multiple CNC tool holder systems, including CAT holders, HSK, BT, Capto, and other commonly used tooling systems.
  • Select the correct tool holder, collet, nut, adapter, and cutting tool for each application.
  • Follow WinTool software and established tooling standards to build assemblies accurately.
  • Ensure correct tool stick-out, gauge length, collet selection, and overall tool assembly dimensions.
  • Operate CNC tool presetters to accurately measure and preset tool length and diameter.
  • Experience with heat-shrink tooling systems, including proper heating, tool insertion, cooling, and removal procedures.
  • Ensure proper tool engagement and stick-out when assembling heat-shrink tooling.
  • Inspect tooling and holders for damage, wear, cleanliness, and proper condition.
  • Verify completed tool assemblies before releasing them to production.
  • Maintain accurate tooling information and inventory within WinTool.
  • Work closely with CNC programmers, manufacturing engineers, machinists, and setup personnel to resolve tooling issues.
  • Troubleshoot tooling problems such as incorrect stick-outs, improper collet selection, excessive runout, or incorrect tool assembly.
  • Maintain an organized and controlled tooling area.
  • Communicate tooling requirements, issues, and production needs directly with the Shop Supervisor.

  • Build and prepare CNC tooling assemblies for production.
  • Work with multiple CNC tool holder systems, including CAT holders, HSK, BT, Capto, and other commonly used tooling systems.
  • Select the correct tool holder, collet, nut, adapter, and cutting tool for each application.
  • Have working knowledge of various cutting tools, including:
  • End mills
  • Drills
  • Taps
  • Boring bars
  • Reamers
  • Insert tooling
  • Specialty tooling
  • Follow WinTool software and established tooling standards to build assemblies accurately.
  • Ensure correct tool stick-out, gauge length, collet selection, and overall tool assembly dimensions.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Previous experience building and preparing CNC tooling for production machining.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC cutting tools and their applications.
  • Knowledge of CAT holders, HSK, BT, Capto, and other CNC tool holder systems.
  • Knowledge of different collet types and proper applications.
  • Experience with heat-shrink tooling systems.
  • Understanding of tool stick-out, gauge length, and tool assembly requirements.
  • Experience operating CNC tool presetters.
  • Experience using WinTool or similar tooling management software.
  • Ability to read and understand tool lists, setup sheets, and tooling specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to tooling accuracy.
  • Ability to identify damaged, worn, or improperly assembled tooling.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of CNC tooling, machining, tool crib, setup, or related manufacturing experience.
  • Experience supporting precision or high-volume CNC machining operations.
  • Experience with horizontal machining centers.
  • Experience working with CNC machinists, programmers, and manufacturing engineers.
  • Familiarity with CNC tool management and tool-life systems.
