Job summary

Chapter 2, Inc. is seeking a CNC Machine Operator to perform setups, run parts, and verify tolerances on a diversified line of precision components.

The role involves operating CNC mills and lathes, maintaining tooling, and ensuring safe, efficient production with close attention to quality. The candidate will inspect first pieces, troubleshoot machine issues, and collaborate with the quality department to obtain production approval.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a level 1-3 Machine Operator in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare CNC machines by installing tooling, fixtures, and collets, and run first-part verifications.
  • Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, or other machinery to produce precision components and adjust work holding.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, lubricate moving parts, and replace worn tools.
  • Diagnose machine errors, vibrations, or software glitches to minimize downtime.
  • Edit or fine-tune G-code programs and machine parameters to optimize speed and accuracy.
  • Prepare first-piece inspection data and coordinate with quality for production approval.
  • Document actions and communicate issues to ensure smooth shift transitions.

Job description

Requiresa broad knowledge of machining techniques and familiarity with computernumerically controlled machine tool operating procedures. In depth understanding of program formatsinvolving combinations of operations such as profile and contour milling,boring, recessing, turning, drilling, threading, etc., to the capacity of themachine and control factor. Performadvanced work-center center setup operation.Install appropriate workholding, check out and adjust programming and operatenumerically controlled machine tools to perform a complex series of progressivemachining operations on a diversified line of work to close and exactingtolerances and finish specifications requiring a high degree of skill. May set up machines for and instruct otheroperators. Check parts for conformanceto specifications. Operators may runmore than one unit simultaneously.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare CNC machines by installingtooling, fixtures, and collets, and perform first-part runoffs to verifyaccuracy.
  • Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes,or other machinery to produce precision components, change and adjust machinework holding, verify tool changes, re-sharpening, etc.
  • Perform preventive maintenance,lubricate moving parts, replace worn tools, and fix mechanical or electricalissues.
  • Diagnose machine errors, unusual vibrations,or software glitches to minimize downtime.
  • Edit or fine-tune G-code programsand machine parameters to optimize speed, feed rates, and cut accuracy.
  • Prepares the first piece inspectionin accordance with company policy and works with quality department for production approval.
  • Makes minor &/or majoradjustments to machinery to ensure that it is operating accurately, safely and efficiently, while production stayswithin established quality parameters.
  • Interpret and understand programs onmills and lathes by entering data (including zero and reference points),setting tool registers, offsets, compensation and conditional switches,calculating requirements (basic math, geometry and trigonometry), and provingpart programs.
  • Follows drawings, engineering printsand instructions effectively.
  • Supports continuity among work shiftsby documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and needs.
  • Carryout functions of a machine operatorwhen need arises; encompasses but does not limit the duties and responsibilities listed on the CNCMachine Operator job description.
  • To monitor, carry out and abide bycompany policies.
Experience
  • Previous experience as a level 1-3 Machine Operator in a manufacturing setting

Candidate(s) should be a reliable and responsible individual, able to work independently and well with others. Must have excellent attendance record! Heavy lifting and standing is required.
