Job summary

Smith & Wesson, Inc. is seeking a full-time supervisor in Springfield, MA to oversee manufacturing teams and coordinate with the Cell Coordinator on planning and work assignment.

You will help ensure adherence to policies, drive improvements in production methods, and foster a safe, efficient work environment. The role requires experience in manufacturing and the ability to lead teams, with duties spanning budgeting input, scheduling, problem solving, and performance management.

Qualifications

• High School or GED with preferred associate degree.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
• 1–3 years of related work experience for the assigned position.
• Experience in maintenance, CNC operation, polishing, forging, heat treat, plating, and shipping/receiving is preferred.
• Ability to operate manual machines and perform related duties.

Responsibilities

• Supervise employees in a manufacturing environment.
• Plan and assign work with the Cell Coordinator.
• Ensure policies and procedures are followed and suggest improvements.
• Manage throughput and drive continuous quality improvements (Lean).
• Schedule day-to-day work and monitor staffing and vacations/absences.
• Analyze problems, identify root causes, and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Provide input on budgeting for tooling and materials.
• Assist with hiring, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions as needed.
• Fill in for team members to maintain workflow and lead meetings.

Description

Supervise employees in a manufacturing environment. Work with Cell Coordinator to plan and assign work, ensure policies and procedures are being followed and recommend improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.

Pay Range: $28.29-$37.15

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Managing throughput and continuous quality improvements within general guidelines of Lean manufacturing
• Performing duties and sharing goals as part of a participative work team
• Regularly communicating with Cell Coordinator, team members and support personnel, all issues impacting product, production, quality and safety across shifts and departments
• Providing input to Cell Coordinator related to budgeting of tooling, materials, etc.
• Scheduling day-to-day work and staffing (vacations/absences) of work team
• Using problem solving techniques to analyze, find root cause and permanently correct problems related to all aspects of cell operation
• Providing direct input to Cell Coordinator regarding the evaluation of team members' performance and taking appropriate disciplinary action as necessary
• Must be capable of filling in for assigned team members to maintain work flow
• Assisting Cell Coordinator with leading personnel in day-to-day requirements; conducting team meetings, providing regular performance feedback and tracking performance of team members
• Assisting Cell Coordinator with the supervision of personnel, including hiring and retention, performance management and discipline
• Assisting with department planning over a 30-day time span and preparing action plans to achieve results

Education and Experience:

• High School/GED -- Associate's Degree preferred,
• Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment

Competencies and Skills:

• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:

Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.

The following Personal Protective Equipment is required:

Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor

The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear
