Job summary

The Technology & Manufacturing Association in Illinois is seeking a skilled operator to run production machines (Swiss CNC and CNC Lathe) and perform initial inspection of parts. You will read drawings and workmanship standards, verify sizes with micrometers/calipers, document inspections, and support setup and maintenance tasks while maintaining safety and quality on the shop floor.

Strong attention to detail, basic math, blueprint reading, and 1–2 years' machine-operating experience are

Responsibilities

• Operate Swiss CNC or CNC Lathe machines; perform first part inspection.
• Use inspection tools to verify part size and tolerances.
• Document results and report nonconforming parts.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety standards on the shop floor.

Job description

General operation of the production machines such as SWISS and CNC Lathe when necessary. Responsible for first inspection and inspection during production.

Responsibilities: (50% Operating, 40% Inspecting, 10% Other)

• Use micrometers, calipers, pin gages, comparator and various other inspection equipment appropriately


• Turn on machine. Inspect for obvious problems. Inspect first part off at startup of machine.


• Check for Proper Material and Size before loading into Machine.


• Load Material into vises as required, making sure all chips have been cleaned out of clamping areas before tightly securing vise jaws


• Operate machine watching and listening for possible problems. (I.e. Loud noises, unusual sounds, broken or worn tooling etc.)


• Ability to understand and modify tool offsets


• Inspect and replace broken/worn tooling. Ability to touch off newly installed tooling


• Ability to meet or exceed production rates stated on work order


• Read, understand information in workmanship standards and part drawings


• Fill out appropriate sections of work order


• Perform and document S&R inspection procedures when appropriate (SPC charts, work orders, move tickets)


• Identify nonconforming product or material


• Wash tools and return to storage area


• Complete the preventative maintenance check list


• Know and follow safety standards


• Move parts to next operation


• Remove scrap


• Help with set-up operations


• Other duties as required

Physical and Visual Activities:

• Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, visual acuity-far/near depth perception, field of vision and accommodation.

Physical Demands:

• Lift up to 75 pounds

Job Qualification Requirements:

  • 1-2 year machine operating experience. Swiss CNC Experience Preferred, but CNC Lathe experience is also a plus.
