Job summary

Space Kinetic in El Segundo, CA is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist for a contract role supporting rapid prototyping of our space-grade hardware. You will program, setup, and operate 3- and 5-axis CNC mills and mill-turn machines, using Mastercam to iterate designs toward flight-ready components.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in machining, strong problem-solving and leadership, and can work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years as a machinist with CNC experience.

A New Paradigm For Space Operations.

Who We Are:

Space Kinetic is a dual use space technology startup building a completely new architecture for space operations – one that brings the advantages of proliferated drone technology (low-cost, operationally flexible, attainable, distributed) to space missions while reducing the ecosystem's reliance on consumable fuel. In a world where many companies are focused on incrementally improving the status quo, we are focused on creating something entirely different – an architecture underpinned by new first principles to meet the opportunities and challenges of the third space age head-on. Our goal is to move away from one-to-one space architectures – where each satellite in a constellation has one (or a small # of) primary payloads attached to the bus -- and unlock a ‘one-to-many’ system, where each satellite has a large number of payloads which can be deployed from their host spacecraft at high velocities without firing a thruster.

This is not a role for someone looking for a traditional 40-hour work week. Space Kinetic is building ambitious, first-of-its-kind technology, and that requires urgency, ownership, and a high level of commitment to changing the foundational assumptions for everything we do in space.

What You’ll Do:

The CNC Machinist will manufacture and assemble parts critical for the rapid prototyping of Space Kinetic’s core technology, intent is to be able to iterate quickly through different designs, and this role will directly support the engineering team as we head towards flight. This position is a contract position.

You will work quickly to assimilate into the Space Kinetic culture, understanding our prototyping needs, and start generating CAM packages for manufacturing. You\'ll begin by utilizing our current CNC Mills and lathes (3 brand new Okumas, and a mix of older machines (Haas, Okuma, Fadal) to produce essential components, aiming to contribute to the next prototype iteration. Ideal candidate will be able to program 3 or 5 or 7 axis in Mastercam and be experienced setting up and operating one or more of the following Okuma Multus B300 Millturn, Okuma Genos M560V-5AX, Okuma Genos M660 CNC machines.

What It Takes:

• Experience: Minimum 8 years as a Machinist, proficient in Mastercam (or similar CAM package).
• CNC Expertise: Extensive experience with 3 axis CNC mills and lathes. 5-axis CNC mills and Mill-Turn lathes a (bonus).
• Setup Proficiency: Skilled in creating setups for complex parts while maintaining tight tolerances.
• Precision Milling: Aerospace tolerances.
• Leadership: Experience training and mentoring machinists.
• Project Delivery: Consistent record of meeting project milestones and driving team success.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative team-oriented approach.

• Adaptability: Flexible, open to feedback, and receptive to innovative ideas.
