Job summary

Allegion in Illinois is seeking a CNC Programmer in Process Engineering. You will set up, program and operate CNC machines, review blueprints and documentation, and ensure safety and quality standards.

The role requires 5 years in CNC, proficiency with Fanuc controls, G and M code, and experience with Mori-Seiki, Haas, OKK, Takamaz, DN solutions or similar 4–5 axis machines. Shift is Noon–8pm or 2nd shift, full-time.

Job Title: CNC Programmer
Department: Process Engineering
Reports to: Process Engineering Manager
FLSA status: Full time, hourly
Work Hours: Staggered shift (Noon – 8pm) / 2nd shift

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, which are to be performed accurately, efficiently, within company safety and quality standards, and within required time frames. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

  • Manages and executes tooling procurement activities
    • Obtaining and evaluating supplier quotes and generating purchase orders
    • Managing tooling repairs and sharpening internal and external resources
  • Manage and execute the tooling inventory process to ensure tooling is always available for operations
    • Maintain tooling inventory part information in AMMS
    • Audit spare tooling and adjust inventory based on historical information / consumption
    • Communicating and expediting orders
    • Create and maintain communication within internal stakeholders
  • Lead and manage productivity and process improvements involving tooling
    • Identify and execute tooling improvements
    • Track and document improvements / cost savings in productivity database
    • Design, implement and interpret results of tooling tests. Implement inventory changes as appropriate
  • Develops and maintains documentation necessary to deliver training to operators, CNC machinists, Team Leaders, and others
  • Mentor and Train team members on best practices, tool setup methodology, setup discipline, and machine operation fundamentals
  • Review all new jobs prior to being set up, including print, program, material, tooling, fixtures, collets and holders to ensure no interruptions at set up
  • Studies parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequence of CNC machining operations
  • Lead and implement Lean Manufacturing tools & techniques (workshops, Kanban, visual management,5S, total productive maintenance, set-up reduction, etc.)
  • Support implementation of capital equipment projects.
  • Determines reference points, machine cutting paths, computes angular and linear dimensions, radii and curvatures
  • Determines proper tooling and fixturing requirements of machining operations, including tooling speed and feed rates. Monitors and adjusts feeds and speeds as necessary
  • Observes and simulates CNC trial runs using CAM software or other tools to eliminate program errors and eliminate machine crashes
  • Integrates in-process machine and operator safety measures into programming where applicable, such as spindle monitoring, tool breakage detection, RFID tool tracking, etc.
  • Compares program code to original part specifications to verify accuracy
  • Submits status reports to management on progress of assigned projects
  • Performs program troubleshooting, problem identification and resolution
  • Monitors tool life and tool wear to detect potential problems; develops and implements solutions
  • Provides support to maintenance, operators and quality in problem resolution; responds to on-call inquiries from off-shift team as scheduled
  • Perform other duties as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • 5 years’ experience in setting up, programming and operating CNC equipment in a precision manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in working with Fanuc Controls, G and M code to develop programs for Mori-Seiki, Haas, OKK, Takamaz, DN solutions, FOM equipment or other 4 and 5 axis vertical and horizontal machining centers
  • Experience with developing and implementing macros in CNC programming
  • Experience of working with Fanuc robots, collaborative robots, robot gantry systems
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Creo, Fusion360, MS Office Suite (excel, word, power point).
  • Ability to read, interpret and utilize blue-prints, basic math skills to include four functions, fractions, and decimals, as well as ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, comparators, and other gages
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and in independent situations, and exercise good judgment to reach sound conclusions
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity; ability to repetitively use fingers and hands to feel, handle, or squeeze; reach with hands and arms; twist/turn body; perform repetitive motions
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit, frequently and for extended periods of time
  • Occasionally lifts or moves parts between 5 and 25 pounds
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Exposure to various chemicals including greases, oils, and adhesives in safe exposure amounts and approved for use in our facility by EHS
  • Exposure to temperature changes
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels with intermittent loud noises
  • Exposure to vibration
  • Exposure to dirt and/or dust
  • Exposure to sharp objects and parts
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, protected by approved guarding and controls
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum requirements:
    • 5 years’ experience in manufacturing industry working on CNC machines
    • Experience with machining of cast iron and aluminum parts
    • Experience with working on multiple projects in parallel
  • 2-year associate’s degree in engineering or technology preferred

Compensation: This range is provided by Allegion. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.

  • The expected Base Hourly Range: $23.41-$41.44. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
