Job summary

Summit Aviation, INC. is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer in North Carolina to develop and document processes for producing and inspecting parts in line with customer specifications.

You will use Mastercam, CAMplete, CIMCO, Excel and other tools to create CNC programs and paperwork for shop floor production. Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least five years of CNC programming experience using Mastercam in manufacturing.
  • Experience with standard and multi-axis live tool lathes, and 3-5 axis mills/routers.
  • Proficient with GD&T and ANSI Y14.5.
  • Ability to work to exact specifications with high attention to detail.
  • Independent with strong priority management.
  • Extremely detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Develop CNC programs to produce parts, tools, and fixtures from drawings/models.
  • Provide setup sheets with tooling and work holding descriptions.
  • Secure tooling and work holding for shop floor.
  • Provide inspection sheets for verification of machining operations.
  • Collaborate with programming and engineering teams to standardize tooling and processes.
  • Coordinate with purchasing for required supplies and tooling.
  • Update programs and processes with shop floor input.
  • Attend training and status meetings as directed.
  • Follow safety policies and assist with cost estimating as needed.
  • Programmers to be on shop floor when required.

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATION

POSITION TITLE: CNC Programmer DATE: Aug 2026
FLSA STATUS: Exempt DEPT: Manufacturing
LOC: North Carolina

POSITION SUMMARY

The CNC Programmer reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for creating and documenting the process to produce and inspect parts in conformance with customer specifications. CNC Programmer will utilize software including Mastercam, CAMplete, CIMCO, Excel and others to create and manage CNC programs and paperwork for shop floor production.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Develop CNC programs necessary to produce parts, tools, and fixtures from provided drawings and models.
  2. Provide setup sheets with tooling and work holding descriptions.
  3. Secure tooling and work holding not already available to the shop floor.
  4. Provide inspection sheets to allow verification of each machining operation.
  5. Work with programming team to standardize tooling, processes, and documentation.
  6. Work with engineering department personnel to make any changes to process planning.
  7. Work with the purchasing department to coordinate ordering of required supplies and tooling.
  8. Work in conjunction with shop floor personnel to change, update, and improve programs and processes.
  9. Attend and complete training opportunities provided or assigned by the Engineering Manager.
  10. Attend status meetings as determined by the Engineering Manager/Operations Manager.
  11. Follow safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  12. Assist with cost estimating as required.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.
  14. Programmers are expected to be present on the shop floor when required for troubleshooting and assistance.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  2. At least five years of CNC programming experience in a manufacturing environment using Mastercam software.
  3. Experience with programming standard and multi axis live tool lathes, 3, 4, & 5 axis machining centers, as well as CNC routers.
  4. Proficient with GD&T and have a working knowledge of American National Standards (ANSI Y14.5).
  5. Ability to work to specifications with extremely high attention to detail.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal oversight.
  7. Extremely detail-oriented.
Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, perform office and clerical duties including use of office tools. Programmers are expected to be present on shop floor when required.

Working Environment:

The working environment is hybrid machine shop and communal office space. Daily contact with employees in other departments is required.
