Responsibilities
Program milling machines using CAD/CAM (Mastercam), verify conformance of generated toolpaths with drawing requirements, design and create custom fixtures and jaws, and interface with shop floor operators.
Must be able to work from engineering drawings/CAD files, customer blueprints and specifications in both metal and composite materials.
Work with 5-axis mills, Live Tooling Lathes and/or mill‑turn machining centers.
Plan jobs by developing machining sequences, tooling requirements, and setup strategies for multi‑axis machining centers (vertical, horizontal, 5‑axis, and mill‑turn).
Develop and optimize CNC programs for 3‑axis/4th‑axis rotary mills, multi‑axis lathes and VTLs.
Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machining strategies to maximize production efficiency and part quality.
Be able to edit legacy programs and verify effectiveness of changes.
Use standard operating procedures to generate, modify, transfer/load, and archive verified programs to maintain traceability.
Must be familiar with all standard machine shop processes and procedures as well as a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.
Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
First article verification of dimensions in finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
Follow traveler steps to complete the assignment.
Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary.
Maintains inventory of completed products.
Checks output for quality assurance and documents or discards defects.
Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs.
