Job summary

Speedgrip Chuck Company in Elkhart, Indiana, seeks an experienced CNC Programmer to develop safe, efficient, and repeatable machining processes for complex, close-tolerance components. You will program CNC turning and milling equipment, support machinists during setup and prove-out, and continually improve cycle time, tooling, quality, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Support setup, prove-out, and first-piece inspection.
• Troubleshoot programming, tooling, finish, tolerance, and cycle-time issues.
• Establish speeds, feeds, tools, inserts, and cutting strategies.
• Create setup sheets, tool lists, and operator instructions.
• Train CNC machinists and support continuous improvement.

Since 1946, Speedgrip Chuck Company has designed and manufactured precision workholding products for customers in the automotive, aerospace, defense, agriculture, and general manufacturing industries. Our products are engineered and manufactured in Elkhart, Indiana, and used in demanding machining applications throughout the world.

Position Summary

Speedgrip is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to develop safe, efficient, and repeatable machining processes for complex, close-tolerance components. This position will program CNC turning and milling equipment, support machinists during setup and prove-out, and continuously improve cycle time, tooling, quality, and process reliability. The ideal candidate has strong programming experience, practical machining knowledge, and the ability to take a component from drawing review through successful production.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and optimize CNC programs for turning, milling, and multi-tasking equipment.
• Review engineering drawings, CAD models, tolerances, and material specifications.
• Develop machining sequences, setup plans, tooling selections, and workholding methods.
• Use Master CAM software to create toolpaths and machine-ready programs.
• Support machine setup, program prove-out, and first-piece inspection.
• Troubleshoot programming, tooling, finish, tolerance, and cycle-time issues.
• Establish appropriate speeds, feeds, tools, inserts, and cutting strategies.
• Create setup sheets, tool lists, and clear operator instructions.
• Work closely with engineering, quality, and production personnel.
• Recommend tooling, equipment, and process improvements.
• Maintain organized program files and appropriate revision control.
• Train and assist CNC machinists as needed.
• Support continuous improvement, cost reduction, and on-time delivery goals.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated CNC programming experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
• Experience programming CNC lathes and machining centers.
• Experience with multi-axis or mill-turn machines is highly desirable.
• CAM programming experience required; Mastercam experience is preferred.
• Experience with Okuma or similar CNC controls is beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of cutting tools, feeds and speeds, GD&T, and machining practices.
• Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with operators and engineers.
