Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC controlled machine tools under guidance of senior personnel.
  • Select and set proper tooling per program/tool layout.
  • Load and prove out program and run first article samples; adjust setup as needed.
  • Complete documentation for each setup (SPC charts, setup checklist, first article verification).
  • Run, monitor and troubleshoot equipment in production; adjust setup as required.
  • Monitor tool life and dimensional characteristics; replenish tooling as directed.
  • Lift up to 30 lbs and read blueprints with precision instruments.
  • Maintain clean, safe work area and comply with EHS policies.
  • Perform other duties of equal or lesser skill as required.

Responsibilities

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a CNC Tech II- 1st Shift for ourFullerton, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.

Summary

Requires, under guidance of senior personnel, the operation of CNC controlled machine tools to perform any sequence of programmed operation using programs and tool layouts provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Selects and sets proper tooling as identified on tool layout to correspond with program.
  • Makes set-ups by using typical tooling fixtures and indicating target diameters, hole alignments, or spindle run out.
  • Loads and proves out program and runs and self-inspects first article samples. Adjusts set-up as necessary to conform to dimensions and tolerances.
  • Completes as directed all necessary documentation for each set-up. Such as S.P.C. charts, set-up checklist, first article verification, etc.
  • Run, monitor and troubleshoot equipment in production, adjusting set-up as necessary.
  • Monitor tool life and dimensional characteristics of product. Replenish tooling as directed.
  • Parts to be lifted and/or transported may weigh up to 30 lbs.
  • Reads blueprints and has the knowledge to use micrometers, calipers, comparators, thread gauges, depth micrometers and dial indicators as needed.
  • Keeps work area clean, safe and in an orderly fashion on a daily basis.
  • Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years related experience and/or training in machine shop operation running a variety of machine shop equipment including CNC equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions
  • Understanding of cutting tools (offset and geometry) and must know “G” and “M” Codes
  • Willing to cross train and/or assist other departments to meet facility goals
  • Use the necessary measuring tools (Micrometers, Calipers, Dial Indicators, Comparator, Gages, etc) as required
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

The employee is responsible to maintain fitness-for-duty while holding the above-described position and should be able to perform the essential tasks of the position in a safe, appropriate and effective manner. This refers to the physical, mental and emotional duties of the job.

  • Must be able to lift/move 30 lbs. (may not exceed per EHS policies)
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Reaching above and below, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and bending.
  • Need to be able to wear safety steel toe shoes and walk around shop floor environment as needed.
  • Be able to remove dangling jewelry for shop floor assigned tasks, and wear hearing protection as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Understanding of 5S principals; Sort, Simplify, Shine, Standardize and Sustain
  • SPC knowledge highly desirable
