Job summary

Jobtailor in Asheboro, NC is seeking a skilled CNC machinist to operate CNC and conventional equipment, read blueprints, and set up tooling and feeds to meet quality specs.

You will perform G-code modifications, GD&T interpretation, precision measurement, and documentation, contributing to Lean initiatives and continuous improvement in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience in CNC manufacturing or machine operation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational training or apprenticeship completion preferred.
  • Ability to modify G-code programs and read process instructions/drawings.
  • Intermediate GD&T knowledge and accuracy in measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC and conventional machining equipment per specifications.
  • Read blueprints and set up fixtures, tools, and attachments.
  • Select cutters, adjust feeds/speeds, and monitor quality with gages.
  • Perform documentation and data entry accurately and timely.
  • Support Lean and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job description

  • Manufacture sufficient quantities of quality products at or below budgeted production costs to meet marketplace demand
  • Set up equipment operation feed, speed, and temperature
  • Operate conventional and CNC manufacturing equipment for cutting, punching, forming, drilling, tapping, turning, milling, and stamping
  • Select and measure raw materials and parts according to specifications
  • Resolve issues related to production, machinery, processing, and packaging operations
  • Set up and operate mill-turns, mills, lathes, and grinders
  • Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
  • Read blueprints and set and check work using quality-control gages
  • Move materials physically or mechanically as necessary
  • Inspect machined products using precision gaging to ensure quality specifications
  • Set up and perform machining operations on CNC machines
  • Select cutters, adjust feeds and speeds, and replace dull cutters
  • Operate two or more CNC machines simultaneously when required
  • Support operations through specialized technical manufacturing tasks
  • Complete documentation, electronic data entries, and communications accurately and promptly
  • Support Lean Enterprise initiatives and continuous improvement in quality, waste reduction, and productivity
Requirements
  • 1–2 years of experience
  • High school degree
  • Machine operation experience
  • Vocational training or equivalent experience; external certification may be required
  • Technical school certification or apprenticeship program completion preferred
  • 1–3 years of automated/CNC manufacturing experience required
  • Basic troubleshooting and decision-making skills
  • Ability to modify G-code programs
  • Ability to handle basic or standard CNC complexity
  • Ability to complete documentation, electronic data entries, and communications accurately and timely
  • Ability to understand written instructions and communicate them to others
  • Ability to read process instructions and drawings and recognize details
  • Ability to adhere to company safety policies and procedures
  • Intermediate knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Proper use and care of precision measurement tools
  • Knowledge of shop math, including geometry and conversions
  • Manufacturing and product knowledge
  • Proven troubleshooting and decision‑making skills
  • Ability to work in a team‑based environment
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with a moderate degree of supervision
