Job summary

Nucor is seeking a CNC Operator to set up and run CNC milling machines based on BOMs and work instructions. You will plan daily workloads, transport parts with a forklift, and ensure parts meet specifications while maintaining production targets.

Essential duties include loading CNC programs, monitoring operations, inspecting outputs, and performing routine preventive maintenance. This role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and adherence to processes in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent; six months to five years related experience and/or training.
  • Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence.
  • Able to work 1st shift, Monday-Thursday, 4:30am-3:00pm, with safety-conscious teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize daily workload to meet production schedule.
  • Transport parts from racking and staging area using a forklift.
  • Safely operate an Up Cut saw to cut parts to size.
  • Mark and stage cut parts for CNC milling supply carts.
  • Review specs to determine setup procedures and machining sequences.
  • Load CNC programs into machine consoles with preprogrammed instructions.
  • Observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or questionable conditions.
  • Inspect manufactured parts for conformance to specifications and production goals.
  • Mark and stage completed parts for assembly.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance including cleaning and lubrication.

Basic Job Functions:

SUMMARY:

The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC milling machines based on the specifications stated in the bill of materials and work instructions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan and organize daily workload to accommodate production schedule.
  • Transport parts from racking and staging area utilizing a forklift.
  • Safely operate an Up Cut saw in order to cut parts to sizes.
  • Properly mark and stage cut parts on carts used to supply the CNC milling operations.
  • Review specification to determine setup procedures, dimensions, and machining sequences required to manufacture parts.
  • Load CNC programs into machine consoles by entering preprogrammed machine instructions.
  • Observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or questionable conditions.
  • Perform detailed inspection of manufactured parts to ensure conformance to specifications while striving to maintain production goals in terms of cycle time, quantity, and quality.
  • Mark and stage completed parts for the assembly process.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance including cleaning up and lubrication.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work the 1st shift Monday - Thursday from 4:30am - 3:00pm.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other lifting equipment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires operating hand tools, power tools and pneumatic tools, general fabrication tools, and various measuring devices.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and/or other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digits numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Squatting, kneeling and standing frequently.
  • This position is exposed to dust/dirt frequently and fumes, vapors and mists occasionally.
  • This position is in a manufacturing environment where the noise level is high.
Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); six months to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
