Job summary

Impact Acoustic in San Diego, CA seeks a skilled Zünd Cutting Machine Operator to join our production team. You will operate and program Zünd digital cutting systems, processing digital cutting files from preparation through finished parts.

Strong preference for candidates with experience in print, textiles, packaging, or displays using Zünd. Responsibilities include setup, tool selection, file verification against specs, and maintaining safety and quality.

Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Zünd Cutting Machine Operator to join our production team in San Diego, CA.

This position is specifically focused on operating and programming Zünd digital cutting systems, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience using Zünd machines in print production, textiles, packaging, displays, or similar digital cutting environments.

The ideal candidate understands the complete workflow from receiving digital work and production files through material setup, cutting, quality inspection, and finished-part handling. Experience with PET felt is valuable, but candidates with strong Zünd experience working with other sheet or roll materials are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and program Zünd digital cutting systems for production.
• Prepare and process digital cutting files and ensure they are correctly configured for production.
• Import, review, and verify cutting files against technical drawings or production specifications.
• Select and configure appropriate tools, blades, cutting parameters, and machine settings based on the material and application.
• Load, position, and secure materials accurately on the cutting table.
• Operate the Zünd machine efficiently whilemaintaining consistent production quality and throughput.
• Perform first-piece and in-process quality checks to ensure cuts meet dimensional and visual requirements.
• Identify and correct cutting issues such as incorrect tool selection, registration problems, material movement, or file-related errors.
• Troubleshoot basic machine, tooling, software, and production issues and elevate technical problems when necessary.
• Maintain cutting tools, work surfaces, and equipment in proper operating condition.
• Work closely with Production and Engineering to improve cutting programs, material utilization, cycle times, and overall process efficiency.
• Maintain accurate production records and communicate issues affecting quality, productivity, or schedule.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company procedures.

Your profile

• Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience operating Zünd digital cutting systems.
• Demonstrated experiencesetting up and running Zünd cutters in a production environment.
• Experience working with digital cutting workflows, including production files, tool selection, cutting parameters, and machine setup.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, dimensions, artwork, and production documentation.
• Experience working with Zünd Cut Center (ZCC) or similar Zünd software/workflows.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify cutting or file-related issues before they become production problems.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining production schedules and quality standards.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to safely handle sheet and roll materials, load/unload the cutting table, and stand for extended periods.

Experience with PET felt is a plus, but strong Zünd operating experience is the primary qualification.

Experience with other CNC equipment is not required for this position.

Additional Qualifications

• Familiarity with, AutoCAD, Rhino or other design/CAD software is a plus.
• Experience optimizing cutting layouts and material utilization is a plus.
• Experience with nesting, tool-path optimization, or production programming is a plus.
• Mechanical aptitude and basic machine-maintenance knowledge.
• Flexibility to work different shifts as production capacity expands.
