Job summary

McKenzie Craft is seeking a dependable CNC Router Machine Operator to join our production team. You will set up, operate, and monitor the SCM 5' x 12' CNC Router to produce millwork components according to shop drawings and production requirements.

The role requires second shift availability, strong mechanical aptitude, and attention to quality. Prior CNC or woodworking experience is preferred but learnability is valued.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate the SCM 5' x 12' CNC Router safely and efficiently.
  • Review work orders, shop drawings, cut lists, and CNC programs before production.
  • Verify materials, tooling, programs, and machine settings.
  • Load and unload sheet goods and components from the CNC.
  • Inspect materials for damage or defects before machining.
  • Monitor machine operation during cutting and routing.
  • Check parts for dimensional accuracy and conformance with drawings.
  • Use tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools.
  • Identify cutting or material issues before continuing production.
  • Make basic machine and tooling adjustments as needed.
  • Change router bits and tooling for different operations.
  • Label, organize, and stage completed parts for next process.
  • Track material usage and report shortages or damaged material.
  • Perform routine machine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all safety procedures and PPE guidelines.
  • Communicate concerns to Shop Foreman or Production Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production for clarification.

Job description

McKenzie Craft is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented CNC Router Machine Operator to join our production team.

This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring our SCM 5' x 12' CNC Router to produce high-quality millwork components in accordance with shop drawings, work orders, CNC programs, and production requirements.

Candidates must be comfortable and available to work second shift on a consistent basis.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and takes pride in producing accurate, quality work. Previous CNC or woodworking experience is preferred, but we are willing to consider candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate the SCM 5' x 12' CNC Router safely and efficiently.
  • Review work orders, shop drawings, cut lists, and CNC programs before beginning production.
  • Verify that the correct materials, tooling, programs, and machine settings are being used.
  • Load and unload sheet goods and components from the CNC.
  • Inspect materials for damage or defects before machining.
  • Monitor machine operation throughout the cutting and routing process.
  • Check completed parts for dimensional accuracy, quality, and conformance with drawings.
  • Accurately use tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools.
  • Identify incorrect cuts, damaged material, tooling issues, or machine problems before continuing production.
  • Make basic machine and tooling adjustments when necessary.
  • Change router bits and tooling as required for different operations.
  • Properly label, organize, and stage completed parts for the next production process.
  • Track material usage and notify the appropriate team member of shortages or damaged material.
  • Perform routine machine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and required PPE guidelines.
  • Communicate production, material, quality, or machine concerns to the Shop Foreman or Production Coordinator.
  • Work with Engineering and Production when clarification is needed regarding drawings, programs, or components.
Qualifications
  • Must be available and willing to work second shift.
  • Previous CNC machine operation experience preferred.
  • Woodworking, cabinet, architectural millwork, or manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Experience operating an SCM CNC Router or similar CNC equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand shop drawings, work orders, and basic technical information.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic shop math.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also communicating effectively with the production team.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a consistent production pace.
  • Willingness to learn McKenzie Craft's production standards and processes.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and work around production machinery for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and position materials and components as required.
  • Ability to safely handle sheet goods and manufactured components.
  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and perform repetitive production tasks.
  • Ability to work in a woodworking and manufacturing environment where dust, noise, and moving equipment are present.
