Job summary

Carter Lumber Company seeks an Architectural Millwork CNC Operator to use CAD/CAM outputs for detailed millwork submittals. You will read blueprints for commercial and residential projects, ensuring precise dimensions, grain direction, and finished faces.

This role requires meticulous attention to detail, teamwork, and adherence to safety. Responsibilities include machine setup, program verification, first-piece checks, and maintaining production records.

Qualifications

  • Experience machining in woodworking or architectural millwork preferred.
  • Able to read work orders, cut lists, drawings
  • Familiar with CNC controls, tooling, and G-code basics
  • Strong measurement, shop math, and geometry skills
  • Basic computer skills to navigate CAM programs
  • Detail-oriented with good problem-solving and teamwork

Responsibilities

  • Review the production schedule, work order, approved machining data before starting.
  • Verify program and revision, material type, thickness, color, grain direction, finished face, part orientation, tooling, and quantity.
  • Inspect raw sheet goods and components for damage before machining.
  • Set up tooling, fixtures, stops, spoilboards, vacuum zones, and other machine parameters.
  • Load approved programs and perform dry runs or first-piece checks.
  • Safely load, position, secure, and unload material.
  • Operate CNC routers and related woodworking machinery according to procedures.
  • Monitor machine operation, vacuum hold-down, dust extraction, tool condition, cycle status, alarms.
  • Make authorized adjustments; escalate changes when needed.
  • Label and stack completed parts for next operation.
  • Inspect first-piece and in-process parts for dimensions and tolerance.
  • Record job status and production data in CAM systems.
  • Coordinate with Engineering on data discrepancies.
  • Maintain safety and housekeeping.
