Job description

Position Summary

The CNC Milling Operator 2 is a mid-level CNC milling operator capable of running established milling jobs with moderate independence. This position requires intermediate inspection ability, general GD&T understanding, and the ability to make tool wear offsets.

This role is for operators who can maintain production, monitor part quality, and assist with basic tooling or process issues on proven jobs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate CNC milling machines (3 axis, 4 axis, 4 axis horizontal, and 5 axis) on established jobs with limited supervision.
  • Load and unload parts.
  • Follow documented work instructions, inspection plans, and traveler requirements.
  • Perform basic part cleaning, deburring, and packaging as required.
  • Intermediate understanding of precision measurement tools and techniques as instructed including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, go/no-go gauges, etc.
  • Make basic wear-offset adjustments as required and perform routine tooling changes as outlined by procedures.
  • Identify worn or broken tooling and notify supervisor.
  • Identify process variation and notify setup machinists or supervision before producing nonconforming parts.
  • Identify and elevate to supervisor obvious part defects, tool issues, machine alarms, or process abnormalities.
  • Accurately record job data and labor in the ERP system and required paperwork, including but not limited to proper part counts, lot control, labor time, and quality data.
  • Independently keep work area clean, organized, and safe.
  • Maintain production efficiency and quality standards.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures including but not limited to guidelines related to safety, quality, ethics, and attendance.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of performing repetitive actions that entail using fine and gross motor skills, bending, and stooping.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift parts/materials with a minimum of 50 pounds at a time.
  • Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
Decision Authority
  • Will operate established jobs independently.
  • Must make approved wear-offset adjustments within documented limits.
  • Must replace simple tooling when trained and authorized.
  • Will not perform full independent setups.
  • Will not make program edits.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma, equivalent diploma, or GED required.

Requirements
  1. Minimum 1 – 3 years of precision CNC milling machining experience preferred.
  2. Intermediate mechanical aptitude and hand tool abilities.
  3. Intermediate blueprint knowledge required and basic GD&T interpretation.
  4. Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of precision measurement tools and methods.
  5. Willingness to train precision CNC milling operations, shop math, and inspection methods.
  6. Ability to recognize tool wear, poor finish, chatter, burrs, and obvious dimensional drift.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills with setup machinists, leads, quality, and supervision.
