Job summary

Joyce/Dayton Corp. is seeking a CNC Mill Operator I to safely and efficiently manufacture parts meeting quality standards. The role involves close tolerances, reading blueprints, and setting up and operating CNC mills with minimal supervision.

The position is hourly and non-exempt, reporting to the Production Supervisor, with opportunities to cross-train and work on multiple machines across Dayton, OH and Portland, IN locations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus related experience.
• 1 year CNC Mills experience.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Able to interpret blueprints and routing information.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Job Title CNC Mill Operator I Shift Shift 2 (United States of America)

Summary A successful CNC Mill Operator I can safely and efficiently manufacture parts that meet all quality requirements.

This position is an hourly, non-exempt position and reports to the Production Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work to close tolerances (ie. .0002”)
• Machine metals including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
• Inspect parts during production using precision measuring instruments
• Monitor and maintain machine fluid levels
• Read process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements
• Edit pre-written programs with supervision when necessary
• Edit program for process improvements and troubleshooting
• Mount work pieces in chuck, to faceplate, or to fixtures
• Select and install preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or cutters, and automatic tool change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet
• Observe numerical control displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts
• Turn dials and switches to override program and correct machine performance
• Inspect first run piece and spot check succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications Study job packets and organize materials for next order during cycles to reduce cycle and setup time
• Pre-set tools before positioning them in mill
• Set up and operate another machine tool during machining cycles
• Set up and operate CNC machines using set-up sheets and written instructions with minimal supervision
• Utilize all types of inspection instruments to check work per print without supervision
• Possess knowledge of various cutting tools and has ability to determine various machine speeds and feeds
• Perform basic equipment maintenance
• Crosstrain on other plant machinery as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Highschool Diploma or GED required and related experience.
• 1 year of proven CNC Mills experience.
• Overhead crane experience.
• Ford truck experience.
• Ability to do light CNC editing.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to interpret and adhere to blueprints.
• Capable of understanding and following routing information.
• Ability to inspect work and meet quality requirements.
• Sound mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience using steady rest.
• Able to perform machine set up ( install proper chuck jaws and tooling)
• Basic understanding of equipment and processes in the area of responsibility.
• Ability to read precision measuring equipment.
• Basic programming knowledge or experience, set-up capabilities, tooling knowledge, understanding of feeds and speed and gearing technology.
• Some fixturing knowledge.
• Own basic hand tools at minimum.
• Minimal layout capabilities.
• Basic product knowledge.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods standing.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
