Job summary

Spirax Sarco is seeking a skilled CNC Manufacturing Technician to lead complete machine setups, read engineering drawings, and drive continuous improvement in a high‑precision shop. You will train Operators Levels 1–3, perform root cause analysis, and collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to improve processes and sustain safety standards.

The role requires extensive CNC experience, GD&T proficiency, and a proactive mindset for tooling, programming, and process optimization

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school, vocational training, apprenticeship, or equivalent advanced manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of CNC machining, manufacturing, setup, or related technical experience.
  • Previous CNC Operator Level 3 experience or demonstrated equivalent technical expertise required.
  • Proven experience performing complete CNC machine setups independently.
  • Experience validating first article inspections and production readiness requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting machining processes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Experience modifying CNC programs and optimizing machining performance.
  • Experience training, mentoring, and developing manufacturing personnel.
  • Experience supporting safety, quality, productivity, and delivery objectives in a manufacturing environment.

CNC Manufacturing Technician

Responsibilities
  • Perform complete CNC machine setups including tooling, fixtures, workholding, tool offsets, work offsets, and setup verification activities.
  • Validate setup conditions and conduct first article inspections to ensure compliance with engineering, quality, and customer requirements.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T specifications, setup sheets, tooling documentation, and manufacturing standards.
  • Establish and maintain repeatable setup methodologies that support consistent production performance across machines and shifts.
  • Develop, update, and improve setup sheets, tooling lists, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Support new product introductions, process implementation activities, and manufacturing readiness efforts.
  • Reduce setup times and improve changeover efficiency through standardized practices and SMED methodologies.
  • Diagnose machining and process issues related to tooling, machine performance, fixturing, programming, dimensional nonconformance, and cycle efficiency.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions that improve process reliability and manufacturing performance.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams to optimize machining operations and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to tooling, fixturing, machine parameters, cutting strategies, and process flow.
  • Monitor process capability, machine utilization, scrap reduction, cycle times, and operational efficiency metrics.
  • Read, verify, modify, and optimize CNC programs to improve quality, productivity, and process stability.
  • Support troubleshooting of program-related issues and ensure changes follow proper revision control procedures.
  • Utilize precision inspection equipment and measurement systems to verify compliance with print specifications and process requirements.
  • Support quality investigations, audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Serve as the primary technical trainer and mentor for CNC Operators Levels 1-3.
  • Train, coach, certify, and develop operators on machine operation, setup procedures, quality expectations, and safe work practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership during problem-solving, process improvement, and production support activities.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas while supporting company safety policies, environmental standards, and 5S initiatives.
Required Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school, vocational training, apprenticeship, or equivalent advanced manufacturing experience preferred.

Technical Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, milling equipment, and machining operations.
  • Strong understanding of tooling selection, cutting tool performance, fixturing, and workholding systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and modify CNC programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Experience optimizing cycle times, reducing scrap, and improving process capability.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring instruments, gauges, inspection equipment, and quality validation tools.
  • Ability to create, maintain, and improve technical manufacturing documentation.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, Teams, ERP, and manufacturing systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced CNC programming training including G-Code and CAM systems.
  • Advanced GD&T certification.
  • Lean Manufacturing certification or demonstrated practical experience.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent exposure.
  • Train-the-Trainer certification or demonstrated instructional experience.
  • Experience supporting Engineering-led manufacturing improvement projects.
  • Experience working in steam, valve, fluid control, industrial equipment, or engineered product manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools including 5S, Kaizen, SMED, standard work, and root cause analysis.
  • Experience leading technical improvement initiatives and cross-functional problem-solving activities.
