Job summary

Fluid Equipment Development Company (FEDCO) is seeking a CNC Machinist Trainee for our Monroe, MI facility. This entry-level position offers a night shift with a 10% premium and a strong benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401K with 6% company match, and disability insurance.

As an entry-level machinist in training, you will learn set-ups and operation of CNC machines, read blueprints, perform basic measurements, and work under experienced machinists to ensure timely, quality

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of blueprints, sketches, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Operate machine tools under guidance of experienced machinists.
  • Set controls and inputs for CNC programs (speeds, feeds, coolant).
  • Use measuring tools like gauges, calipers, micrometers for inspection.
  • Identify conformance/non-conformance to specs and blueprints.
  • Maintain safety and housekeeping practices.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machinery and assist in setup under supervision.
  • Interpret blueprints and measurements to ensure tolerances are met.
  • Record and report measurements and tool conditions for quality control.
  • Assist with maintenance and housekeeping of work areas.
  • Support multiple departments to meet on-time delivery goals.

Position Summary: An entry level Machinist is a professional in training who demonstrates mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn. Capable of applying basic concepts of math, materials, tooling and set-ups to operate machine tool resources within a manufacturing environment. Required to perform related work processes while under a team of experienced machinists to provide on-time delivery of efficient, quality and custom products. Provides support for and routes work to multiple departments. Essential goals are to utilize this training position for the development of skills in becoming a professional Machinist.

Essential functions:

  • Basic knowledge of blueprints, sketches, drawings, and specifications to determine precision dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces.
  • Operate machine tools under the guidance of experienced machinists.
  • Sets controls and enters commands for CNC programs to regulate machining factors such as speeds, feeds, and coolant flow.
  • Use of measuring tools or equipment for inspection. Such as gauges, calipers, dial indicators, and micrometers.
  • Capable of identifying the conformance or non-conformance of the finished work piece to work procedures, specifications and blueprints.
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Maintain good safety and housekeeping practices.
  • Perform minor preventative maintenance and daily clean-up of machines or work areas.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.

Competencies:

  • Proficient with basic computer skills.
  • Experience with using mechanical tools or equipment. Such as saws, grinders, or drill presses.
  • Basic exposure to CNC machines and CNC programming language.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and work procedures.
  • Basic math skills. Knowledge with the concepts of algebra and geometry a plus.
  • Good verbal communication.
  • Good attendance and reliability.
  • Teachable. Open to learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Promotes Teamwork and a willingness to work alongside other department.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 - 2 years related experience and training a plus but not required.
  • Basic exposure to manufacturing.
  • Basic high school vocational or machine shop courses are a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to stand.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
