Job summary

Ultra Machining Company (UMC) in Monticello, MN seeks a Swiss Machinist to set up and operate Swiss machines, ensuring quality and efficiency in daily production. You will meet production goals, troubleshoot with senior staff, and maintain a safe, high-performing work environment while embracing our core values.

Requirements include 2+ years as a machinist, blueprint reading, GD&T, and CMM/VCMM familiarity; Swiss experience preferred. Night shift Mon-Thu 4:30 pm–3:00 am with a 25% differential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required or equivalent machining experience.
• 2+ years of machinist experience; Swiss machining preferred.
• Swiss experience preferred; multi-channel programming preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and use basic measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate Swiss machines, ensuring quality and production efficiency.
• Troubleshoot production issues with support from senior staff.

About the Role

As a Swiss Machinist, you will play a key role in the daily operation and setup of Swiss machines, ensuring quality, precision, and efficiency in our manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for meeting production goals, troubleshooting processes, and maintaining a safe, high-performing work environment. What You’ll Do

• Independently set up and operate machines for various jobs, ensuring adherence to company quality standards and production efficiency. While seeking assistance from a supervisor or senior machinist for advanced setups, as needed.
• Troubleshoot production issues with support from Senior Machinists, Supervisors, and Engineers to ensure smooth production flow.
• Conducted in-process inspections of machined products, documenting results to ensure products met specifications.
• Assist Junior Machinists and Production Operators in diagnosing and resolving technical issues that arise during machining operations, to enhance team competency and flexibility.
• Maintain a safe working environment by upholding a proactive safety culture, identifying and addressing potential hazards.

Requirements

What You’ll Bring:

Education and Experience:

• Associate's degree in Machining or related field, or work experience in place of education.
• 2+ years’ experience as a machinist.
• Swiss experience preferred
• Multi-channel programming experience preferred

Skills and Competencies:

• Willingness to learn a new platform with positivity and grit.
• Ability to express ideas, share information, listen actively, and demonstrate professionalism in written and verbal communication.
• Able to read and interpret blueprints, use simple math to perform basic calculations, and use hand-held measuring tools.
• General knowledge of CMM, VCMM, and GD&T.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Knowledge of reading G-code and M-code.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
