Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC VMC to close tolerances, 0.001" as required.
  • Select tools, load and adjust programs, and verify first articles.
  • Inspect finished work and perform corrective action for defects.
  • Fine-tune processes within procedures to achieve conformance.
  • Install fixtures, load tooling, and maintain setup records.
  • Monitor speeds/feeds and ensure safe, efficient operation.
  • Read engineering drawings and apply quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering to improve machining methods.

Job description

Description
The Senior CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC machining processes to produce high-precision components that meet strict quality and tolerance requirements. This role requires advanced knowledge of machining principles, tooling, and programming, along with the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications. The Senior CNC Machinist plays a key role in ensuring product quality through in-process inspection and continuous adjustment, while also contributing to process improvements, efficiency gains, and safe, organized shop operations. Collaboration with engineering and leadership is essential to support innovation and maintain high manufacturing standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sets up and operates to close tolerance (+/- 0.001") on CNC VMC to perform such operations as: Boring, milling, drilling, thread milling, ridged tapping and other operations
  • Selects proper tools and settings
  • Loads, saves, and adjusts programs
  • Accurately inspects and processes all completed work to detect any defects and take appropriate corrective actions
  • Adjusts, within procedural limits, to fine-tune the process to achieve product conformance
  • Installs fixtures and uses set-up sheets
  • Installs tooling in the magazine changers and indexing and/or replaces inserts
  • Keeps accurate records of time worked on jobs
  • Maintains work area and equipment in an organized manner
  • Monitors speeds and feeds for most efficient and safe operation
  • Reads, interprets, and understands product and process engineering drawings, procedures and quality requirements and applies these to work performed
  • Safely Uses cranes and hoists for material handling
  • Works with engineering and management to develop more efficient ways of machining parts using new concepts or ideas
Key Requirements
  • Ability to correctly interpret engineering requirements from blueprints, drawings, and written specifications
  • Ability to correctly perform basic to moderately complex mathematical calculation.
  • Ability to read and properly use precise measuring equipment (i.e., dial calipers, micrometers, double column height, etc.)
  • Ability to read, understand and follow safety guidelines
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented, manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work independently, with a minimum of supervision
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of hand tools and mechanical assemblies
  • Knowledge of tooling (both conventional and CNC)
  • Strong visual inspection skills are mandatory
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a CNC Machinist in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of CNC Programming and G-Code
  • Okuma (Fanuc controls) 561V and 761V-II, Renishaw Probe familiarity, and Vertical Machine Center experience is desirable
